In a bid to avoid the big coffee chain outlets during a Saturday shopping trip, we went to SOHO Coffee Co. There were lots of free tables but a fairly long queue to order with just one ordering point. The gentleman serving was moaning to another member of staff that some of the other staff weren’t pulling their weight, quite unprofessional in front of customers. When he came to serving me the slice of caramel shortcake served up was undersized (being a miserly end piece from the tray) compared to those on display. I asked for a different piece and he said “they are literally only a millimetre wider”. The woman behind me laughed out loud at that because it was clearly untrue. The alternative slice provided was “literally” twice the size of the first! There was one person making hot drinks so the queue waiting for drinks was even longer than the queue to order and worse than that the drinks were being made in a random order. Once 3 people after me had been served I asked when mine was coming and they had to hunt for the slip. It turned out there were two people before me who hadn’t received drinks yet. The man serving at the order point seemed unconcerned about the chaos. Staff washing up and clearing tables (those deemed “not to be pulling their weight”) were working damn hard while the server stood with hand on hip tutting at the delays. He could have helped organise the drinks but just watched the chaos indifferently. The coffee was nice and the blueberry muffin was very good (but they could drop the fake cream on top as a bit sickly). Poor service but NOT the fault of the younger staff...

I went to the Soho Coffee a day before yesterday around 6.10 in the evening. I ordered for couple of sandwiches and a large latte. Generally I carry my mug with me as I would like to avoid plastic touching my coffee/tea. And sitting in was the primary reason as I wanted to have my hot coffee in ceramic and not a take away plastic cup (cup is paper but always plastic lining inside). The moment I get in I asked for the closing time and the girl responded 8PM, I along with my wife and 2 children sat down. I ordered around 6.10 PM and asked for a mug and the girl said, you will get in the take away cup even if you are sitting in. I said I want to avoid plastic cup and she said, no we are in process of closing down. I said the closing time is 8PM, dont you think its too early saying no to ceramic mugs (I know they need to manage the washing) but isnt almost 2 hours prior closing denying somebody who doesnt want in PLASTIC cup simply because you dont want to work is a crime? I denied the coffee and just took the sandwiches and the girl was absolutely fine. No remorse.
Just 50m away, I sat down in Costa Coffee and got my large latte in a ceramic mug.
Its so unfortunate that some of the employees spoils the brand name since its such a good place to sit and eat. It was so rude. I hope the management...
Read moreThis was the second visit and the last one as the service was awful. When ordering, I asked did they have any pastries suitable for vegans, which the young girl said after looking at the section, No. I replied that's disappointing. Then I asked what about toast? Maybe toasted teacakes? At this point, she was very reluctant but went to another team member and asked the other one showed me the label saying see it is vegetarian!! I replied it's even more disappointing now. As my husband was already sitting at a table I ordered our coffees, and went to the pickup section, which at this point the two of them were whispering, (one facing towards me and the other one's back) about me because I said it was disappointing that there was nothing I could buy to eat. The service from that point went from bad to horrible. Extremely inappropriate, not willing to help or show they care. We will never ever go there again. This was last 18th October Friday around...
