Outstanding in so many ways. Firstly, the cleanliness is noticeable the moment you walk through the door - and that gives a very pleasing feeling. The staff are polite and attentive and the seating and decor is welcoming and comfortable. And now on to the food - which is really hard to fault. I'm an old man now and I've been eating curry for my entire adult life. One dish that I have become particularly fond of is Korai (many different spellings) which is served in a wok. That's what I ordered here as well as some bombay aloo and plain rice. I have to say there was a wait - which I take as a positive thing. It always seems to indicate to me that what you have ordered is being cooked to order and not merely warmed up. I have to say that the dish was the best I've tasted - not too spicy with a rich and deep tomato-based sauce. The potatoes were outstanding too. There wasn't a scrap left on our table at the end of a lovely meal and I very much look forward to visiting again when I am next in town. If you are looking for a great meal out for a very reasonable price then you really should put this place on your list. You...
Read morePlanned a nice weekend away to celebrate my wife's Birthday. Had a wonderful lunch in local chip shop, had a wander around the town and even managed to walk up to the Tor...so far so good. Then came the evening meal at the Elaichi Restaurant......and must admit neither of us could complain about the quantity of food. We both ordered the specialities, however, both meals looked exactly the same and tasted .....of nothing... no taste/flavour at all! ...The keema nan and kebab were excellent but that was all ....we paid up and left, quite expecting to go on to a bar elsewhere.....but within 15/20 minutes we were both suffering from severe stomach pains and decided to go back to our hotel were we spent the rest of the night in absolute agony and its safe to say this 'Restaurant' completely and utterly ruined my wife's special day and our few days away! What I've failed to put on here is....my wife is Asian and is a fantastic cook if the chefs in this 'restaurant' ever need...
Read moreI really don't understand what happened, it's almost as though someone got the salt and sugar pots labelled in reverse. Literally everything I ordered was sweet, which is completely inauthentic. I spent a month and a half traveling through India and if there had been this much sugar in the food I would have left the country just to eat something savoury. The Kormas were so sweet, the kids refused to eat, which isn't normal. How on earth you make a pink butter chicken is beyond me! The dansak was almost good, but it was entirely sweet and no sour. The online menu is a nightmare, you have no idea what you're getting beyond a couple of lines of text, sometimes nothing at all other than a heading. When I spend almost £60 on a meal I expect to be impressed, not just give up and eat naan and rice. Really sad. Won't be...
