I've only had one meal in there, and quite frankly I could have cooked it myself by using a frozen chicken Kiev from the supermarket and a bag of salad to serve it with. It seemed to be pointless to pay such money when it is so simple to do yourself.
I feel the way about their extremely overpriced drinks as well. I had a hot chocolate someone bought me, and although it was quite nice, you just can't help thinking you are paying top money for something which is nothing special. It's basic food, and a lot of it is hippy food, so don't expect to get much nutrition from it. You can tell if you have had a big meal of it and feel just as hungry half an hour later. However getting a big meal in this place would mean ordering up two, as the portions are small.
As for the place itself, the staff come across as friendly, but you do get the feeling of pressure sales tactics, always asking if per chance you might want another drink, even if the other one is not even finished! Like the food, the chairs are hippy chic as well, as per hard, wooden and not a place you would like to relax in for more than five minutes. The rest of the décor follows the minimalist philosophy of the chairs. Table cloths are a luxury of bygone years.
I know it is a popular place and yet the product does not justify the popularity. One feels as if it’s more the hip place to go rather than the sensible place to go, but then the competition is rather lacking so perhaps this is partly why. Don’t get fooled by the way they dress up third world food for something special, usually by prefixing it with 'organic'. It's the usual practice in this town. Prices might seem cheaper to our overseas guests with our weak pound, but for locals it’s a...
Read moreVisited on a Sunday as part of a large group, with most being extremely disappointed for a number of reasons. It took 40 minutes before someone took our order (including the drinks order).
Due to this long wait one of the mums in our group went to the till and asked if she could order one of the bakery products for her son who was extremely hungry and getting agitated - she was turned away and told someone would be over to take the order shortly. This situation could have been avoided if the staff had just given her the scone she'd been patiently waiting for over half an hour to order.
When our food finally arrived one of the meals had been forgotten, with no one checking if everyone had got everything they'd ordered, again a very simple question that would have made everyone's experience far better.
Food options for non vegans and vegetarians were extremely limited, with all the food overpriced, even shocking those of the group who live in London.
The food was met with mixed reviews, with some not finishing their meal due to it either being cold, bland, or off in taste.
When it came to paying, the machine asked if we wanted to pay a whopping 15, 18, or 20 percent tip! A very cheeky move, especially for overpriced food.
The staff seemed pleasant, but non attentive.
If in the area I'd avoid this place due to the high cost, slow service, and...
Read moreI'm the kind of person who subscribes to coffee YouTube channels so I'm very particular about my coffee and I've also not been to a proper coffee shop since pre-COVID so I was scouring Glastonbury for somewhere that met my (admittedly ridiculous) high standards while I was craving a good quality espresso. I'd have been happier not having one than having a bad coffee so I passed many places in the town until I saw the board outside Hundred Monkeys advertising the coffee roasters that they brew from, which felt to me like a positive sign. Inside the welcome was warm and friendly, service quick and the double espresso excellent. I'm glad that my two year wait for an espresso wasn't wasted! The coffee was beautifully pulled, first I was hit by the sweetness of the shot and then the fruity acidity came through after. Enjoyable throughout. As I left I was distracted by the baked cheesecake in the cabinet which was so attractive I had to go back later for a slice. I can't speak to the food in any way other than visually as I saw other people eating through the window as I walked passed, but if I hadn't already eaten I'd have been more than happy to tuck into the lovely dishes that were being served! If you want specialty coffee in Glastonbury then this is absolutely the...
