Spooky weekend in Glastonbury 👻 #ghosts #paranormal #spooky #ghost #haunted #hauntings

I adore this inn. I have only stayed here one night, but I come to Glastonbury regularly for day trips and every single time will pop into the George and Pilgrims for food or at least a drink. It’s just so beautiful and full of warmth and charm and has such a lovely feel to it. I always enjoy the food and I find everything very reasonably priced, including the room rates. My room: no. 8 the Confessional room was lovely. So cosy and clean and comfortable. I love the decor. So many hotels even in old historic buildings modernise their interior to where they are all so soulless and indistinguishable, but here it is so delightfully charismatic. The bed was very comfortable. It was very quiet so I had a great nights sleep. The bathroom is great, a big bath and everything was very clean and working fine. They provide a tea/coffee station and water. There is a television and the wi-fi worked fine for me. For food during my stay I had a Sunday roast in the evening and eggs Benedict for my breakfast the next morning. Both were very tasty. Hotel staff were nice and informative. Sometimes bar staff can be a little…gruff but that is to be found at any bar in the land I would think. I have included pictures of the stairs and corridors to note that it is a very old building and as such while beautiful it is not accessible for everyone. I only had a small bag as I stayed the one night but be warned if you have big heavy luggage you may struggle as there is no lift/elevator. There are plenty car parks around the high street. The inn is directly accessible from St John’s car park and thus the most convenient but it is not free for hotel guest unfortunately. I can’t wait to book another stay here 😊

Stayed here previously a few times, so aware of quirky nature of this incredible historic building. Wasn’t prepared for how rundown it has become. It was prepaid and planned for my birthday. There was nowhere else available or I would have refused to pay for our two rooms and stayed elsewhere. The staff were lovely, but not enough of them and were running around multi-tasking. They worked so hard. The G&P is in the heart of town with a lively bar downstairs. Everything is an easy walk away. The carpark is directly behind and inexpensive for each 24 hr period. Corridor areas: on arrival it looked terrible. Linen dumped in narrow corridor, empty glasses, open plastic bags filled with rubbish, a razor; it was pretty disgusting at 3pm. Almost all of it had been cleared by late afternoon. One of the corridors: the light frequently didn’t work. Other guests and myself had to use iPhone torches to navigate. Avoid room 10: ugly, scruffy, a bizarre fire-escape corridor running between it and the ensuite. Obviously secure and necessary, but just felt terrible. Radiator not on, but pipes running along the side of the room made the place so hot. Windows could be opened, but were broken so needed propping open. Avoid Confessional room: scruffy, hot, terrible mattress. Windows could be opened, but both latches were broken so couldn’t be left open. Ripped ceiling paper stuck together with tape, hiding what appeared to be a hole in the ceiling. Beyond scruffy. The rooms and linen were clean. Plenty of tea and coffee in each. The building, and the staff deserve better, let alone visitors.

I have never written a review on trip advisor but felt compelled to do so after a recent appalling experience to this pub. I have been here many times over the past 7 years or so and it has become quite a tradition to go there with my grandfather who loves a 'proper' pub. Past experiences have always been flawless which is why we always come back but I can only assume the pub has been taken over by new management. When we arrived at 12:30 we rushed in eager to get a table as it has always been so busy in the past. However, this time only 2 other tables were occupied (and now I understand why). We ordered our drinks and 3 bowls of soup from a very sour barmaid. After 20 minutes, we asked the waiter if there would be much of a wait for the food, as we were in a little bit of rush. The waiter very politely told us that our food was right on it's way out. A few minutes later, another young waiter came to tell us that the chef had had to go and pick some more carrots, which we laughed at as we naively assumed this was a joke as we had just been told that our food was due to arrive. Another 10 minutes passed, and we asked again how long the food would be, and again we were told it was on its way. After another frustrating 5 minutes, our time was running out so we told the barmaid we would unfortunately have to cancel our order. She agreed that it had been a very long wait for soup(!), but that she couldn't refund us as the manager would have to do this. After ANOTHER 5 minutes, a VERY rude man came storming over and before he even got to us started very loudly and aggressively telling us that we had wasted his chef's time as he was making us soup from scratch (which I find either very hard to believe, or a little amateur on their part. Whatever happened to food prepping in a kitchen?) His whole attitude was absolutely appalling, very domineering and totally unnecessary. The whole atmosphere of a previously charming and quint traditional pub has been ruined by awful customer service and bad management. We will definitely not be returning, and definitely not recommending this establishment to anyone. Absolutely abysmal experience which left us disappointed and very hungry! Fortunately, however, we discovered that The 100 Monkey's just up the road has fabulous staff who are friendly and eager to help, AND an extensively...

we booked a twin room so my wife and her friend could spend a few days. The hotel is very well located and is full of character, being a Grade 1 listed building. The structure shows it age in places but this is to be expected.||The big issue for us was on check in my wife was informed that the room we paid for (a twin) was not available due to an issue with the window, requiring it to be boarded up. My wife was given the choice of staying in the room with a boarded up window, which lacked appeal, getting a full refund but being forced to try to find new local accommodation without a car, or stay in a double room, which is all they had left, and share a bed. Option 1 did not sound great, option 2 is an insult as anyone who has ever stayed in Glastonbury will know how hard it is to find accomdation at the best of times, so that left her with option 3.||What shocked me is that there was no goodwill gesture to make up for their shortcomings. This could have been a partial refund, a meal, or even a drink, but they were offered nothing. I think this is very poor customer service, and a small offering could have made this a very different experience. But it seems they want to keep hold of their money.||I wrote to the hotel and received a swift response from the manager, who explained that being an old hotel it can be hard to get repairs as their are rules relating to Grade 1 buildings. He told me he had offered a full refund, but that is no help really. Then made it feel like they were doing my wife a favour by giving her a double room. ||The bed wasn't big enough for a non couple so my wife's friend had to sleep on the floor. A great memory of Glastonbury!||As a final insult my wife asked for a late check out and was told she would have to pay. She reminded them of the situation and the person at the desk then agreed to the late check out without fee. ||Very poor customer service. I would...

We arrived slightly early for our 6 PM booking, but even by the time of our reservation, our table was not ready. We had to go and ask about it ourselves, and were then shown to a space where people were asked to move in front of us. Even after that, the table wasn’t big enough for the 11 people we had booked for (almost a month in advance). We had to take initiative and ask on moving another table , people were sat there too, to make it work , awkward experience — something that should have been organised properly before our arrival.

We were also required to preorder our meals a week beforehand, only to find that the menu available at the restaurant was much smaller than the one advertised online.

While the food itself was okay — my burger was nice — it certainly wasn’t worth the £18 price tag. After finishing our mains, we waited nearly 50 minutes for dessert, which still hadn’t arrived by the time we had to leave.

When it came to paying, each person was charged separately at the bar, and a £2 service charge was quietly added to each bill without explanation or an itemised receipt. I only noticed because I knew the cost of my meal. This hidden, non transparent fee, although small, is against guidelines for fair trading and transparency, basically illegal. Also it would have added up to £22 for the table — completely unacceptable, especially given the lack of service. The male bartender who handled the payments was quite rude and dismissive, which made the experience even worse.

On the positive side, the female waiter who served us was very kind and clearly doing her best despite the poor organisation around her. The interior of the pub itself is absolutely gorgeous and definitely worth a visit — but I would strongly recommend not eating here, especially not with a...
