Came for cappuccino, ended up staying for Brunch (eggs benedict with bacon) and chatting/studying here for nearly 4hours!
A cafe with a lovely atmosphere & service. The house and guest roasts were clearly indicated with flavor notes for each (when had straight but also when had with milk). Cappuccino was nice (but have an espresso if you want to properly taste the coffee).
The eggs benedict was gorgeous. Crisp buttery sourdough Muffins. I.e. Soft inside with a nicely browned & caramelised exterior (fried in butter by the taste, but that may be the hollandaise) . May be completely off base but these muffins tasted like sourdough (had the 'tang' in a very good way). Non-greasy, very crisp Bacon (but not so crisp it was shard like or 'shattering'). Poached eggs thoughtfully topped with very young basil (more flavour than old) & pea shoots. Ben (the head chef) later told me there was Amaranth but I admit to unfortunately missing that! 😅😂 Finishers; A paprika dusting with chill flakes and a young(?) olive oil around the edge of the plate was a nice touch. Oil was added in only a very small amount, tasted peppery, 'green'/herbaceous(for lack of a better word and my poor palate 😂) and added noticeably to the sourdough muffins flavour (complimentary to charred flavours & 'sour' tang).
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable meal clearly made by people who care - my thanks to Ben (Head Chef & on front of house) and Joe (On the front of...
Read moreVisited with friends. Nice independent cafe. Great choice menu items and good coffee. Has a wide selection of baked goods too. Ordered the vegan breakfast and an iced coffee. Vegan breakfast was £13 & iced coffee £4.50. Vegan breakfast consisted of roasted tomatoes, a mushroom, 2 hash browns, courgette fritter, pepporanata, wilted spinach and focaccia. Food was okay and iced coffee tasted good but I've taken off a couple of stars, mainly due to price point v quantity. For £13 I'd expect more. Courgette fritters were 2 very small balls, with a texture resembling more falafel than fritter and lacking in flavour. Hashbrowns seem shop bought, and focaccia bread was nice but not much of it (picture looks deceptive as the bread is covered in wilted spinach). The pepporanata tasted nice. Not much you can do with roasted tomatoes or lone mushroom, so not a lot I can say about that. A fairly ok breakfast. For a total of £17.50 I felt a bit cheated. I'd try this cafe again for the coffee and cake but not a...
Read moreI went here with a relative for drinks and food. Went in and first thing we noticed was the prices! £4 for a cake just ain't cutting it. I decided on a "Jollys Ginger Beer" and my relative decided on a coffee. The relative asked for 1/2 a shot as they are cutting down on caffeine. The man insisted on us having full strength despite the relative making their decision. The man said "I'll see what I can do" and we went to sit down. The ginger beer was excellent and very nice but when we went to drink the coffee it tasted insultingly bitter! After we downed the vile coffee we left the shop, as we were leaving we asked the man who served us how many shots were in the coffee, he grunted and blew his nose on his sleeve before replying "err.. there were 2 shots in that coffee". Outraged but remaining level, we left the building disgusted by the customer service. I hope this review finds you well. Ps. Ginger beer was good though.. not an...
