Pennycomequick — Restaurant in England

We came for a Sunday roast yesterday with very high hopes as we had heard a lot of good things about this place, we sat down by a young girl who didn’t even look like she was dressed to be working at a restaurant, we wasn’t offered any water for the table but instead just pointed at our table and said “that’s yours” we sat down and started to look at the menu. Our orders were taken and about 10 minutes after the same girl came and said “we haven’t got any swede or whatever the other thing is” which we then asked what? And she said I don’t know. At this point we wasn’t actually sure what we was going to be getting and slightly disappointed we weren’t told this prior to ordering. We were asked if we wanted cauliflower cheese instead which only 1 of us said yes to. This whole time she kept pointing in our faces (we had also seen her do this to other tables too) When our food eventually came, everyone had cauliflower cheese on there plate despite saying no, I had to go to the bar and ask for salt and pepper as we had none on the table. The food was okay, the beef was incredibly pink (I understand beef is supposed to be pink but I had never seen it THIS pink before) the pork was unbelievably fatty. Other than this and having cauli cheese that we didn’t ask for we had no complaints about the food. We weren’t checked on while eating our food and during the meal we overheard another waitress ask the table next to us if they want any water and any specific dietary requirements , this then annoyed us because why weren’t we asked any of this? When it came to then end of our meal no one cleared our plates but instead we went up to the bar to pay. We expressed how unhappy we were and the waitress who we had been served by the entire time then slammed her elbow down and said “gowan then hit me with it” we had never been spoken to like this in a ‘restaurant’ before. The food was the only thing saving this place as the customer service was disgraceful. By the looks of it this young rude girl seemed to be bossing everyone around which made us think she may be the manager, if this is the case please rethink you decision. During our visit the place was getting busier by the waitress freinds who were all laughing and shouting walking in and out of the restaurant smelling like weed. After having Sunday lunch here last year, we knew we had to come again this year! I rang up yesterday afternoon to try to book for Sunday lunch but they told us they were fully booked; however, we were advised to come along about 8ish as they said they would probably be able to fit us in then after their booked tables had finished and gone. We were more than happy to do this knowing the food and service was so good last year.

We arrived at about 18:30 as we fancied a few drinks before eating. The staff, as they were last year, were exceedingly friendly and accommodating. After a couple of rounds of drinks, one member of staff came to say they had a table for us (this was near enough 8). Once seated, another member of staff took our order and brought us our wine - which was delicious - and water swiftly after. Soon the food arrived and - my goodness - it was worth the wait! I would even go as far as to say that it was better than last year, and that is saying something. My partner and dad had the roast beef while myself and mum had the pork. Accompanied with the red cabbage, veg, roast potatoes and delectable homemade apple sauce, this was one of the best Sunday roasts I have had in a very long time!

Went in for a Sunday roast having heard how good it was, but never got our roast. Arrived at out table 10 minutes early but it was reserved for us, which was the first and only good sign. Took 30 minutes for our order to be taken and then nothing. Waited another 40 minutes until asking where our food was, to be told thst it was delayed due to a shortage of staff. Thus would have been acceptable except that two other tables yhst ordered after us got there meals whilst we waited. In the end we left hungry, not sure if it was ineptitude, an oversight or just being ignored as we did not fit their requirements as a family. As we left one of the staff followed us out to say our food was being plated up, and again the lame excuse about lack of staff, which does not get around them serving other guests first.
