Thanks to Helen, Izzy and all the staff (you know who you are! 😉) I took my friend here (first time) for her 70th birthday treat. We weren’t disappointed. We both had the Lamb bowl. Delicious. When receiving cake with our tea, the chef kindly put a candle and a Happy Birthday topper on…so thoughtful. It was delicious, too. Chef’s version of an apple pie, hot with clotted cream on the side. You made my friend’s day. And as you can see from the photo, we didn’t leave any!! We will be back.

Fables and food has a lovely atmosphere, it is happy and Homely, has incredible food and amazing service. I had the French toast and it came out so well presented and tasted just as good as it looked! This cafe is like no other I’ve been to before as it has such a South African vibe, from the food to the decor! They even sell fresh eggs, cakes and fresh bread. Could not recommend enough!

Came bank holiday friday and was welcomed with open arms by the staff who interacted with us throughout. We havent been able to stop talking about how nice the food was and personally thought thw coffee was the nicest roast id ever had. Dog friendly as well. Although it feels pricey you have to take into account just how fresh everything is.

This beautiful South African cafe is one of the most excellent places i’ve ever visited. An incredible location, decorated beautifully and you can tell so much love, time and thought has gone into this business. I couldn’t recommend them enough, the staff are always so chatty and kind, they make an effort to remember you and your orders, and really make you feel welcome. The food is unbelievably good, fresh and high quality product, with always something new to try each week. Sweet or savoury, bakery or breakfast, they make it fresh and it is always so delicious. I’ve been visiting every week for the last 6-7 months as I always have a meeting close by one day a week, and they never fail to impress me. Genuinely one of the nicest cafe’s ive ever had the pleasure...

Fables & Food is an absolute winner on all counts. Any SA expat will find flavours, textures and the kind of warm friendly service that reminds us of home, and newcomers to Southern African cuisine will no doubt fall in love with the place instantly. Each dish is presented beautifully and taste even better. If it were in South Africa it would be a smash hit but achieving that here in Dorset is an even greater achievement. Personal brunch favourites include the corn pancake stack, the vanilla eggy bread (french toast), the Boer and Brit breakfast and the melk tert (milk tart). Impeccable all round - rating just five stars seems too few! 100% recommend to everyone; you won't be...

It was mine and my partners first time coming into fables and food today and there was not one thing I could fault. We both absolutely loved it! The food was something we both haven’t tried before and it exceeded expectations. From presentation to flavour we were left with our bellies full and happy faces. The staff treated everyone who entered like familiar faces and took there time to help everyone! It has such a friendly atmosphere! If you’re looking for something a bit different I would definitely recommend. We will...
