I have been regularly been coming to the Gatehouse Diner for around 2 years and its always been a favourite of mine, hence why i visit at least once a week. However recently since the new year everytime i get a cooked breakfast there are multiple items coming out cold or just tasting bad. One time is fine, but the fact it keeps happening is fustrating to say the least.

Recently for example the eggs that came with my cooked breakfast tasted horrible & rubbery plus cold, also the bacon was like a hard rock. Another annoyance is there are never any basic and popular brand sauces like Heinz ketchup or HP on every table as standard, you have to go searching for them because a bunch of random other ones in place of those. Why not just ensure two bottles of each are on every table, i literally dont understand.

I like the new look of the cafe but honestly management need to take some actual responsilbity on addressing this because i have heard other patrons complaining as well. I dont think they should be consistently having problems to push out hot food if there are only a few other customers around, or in any case for that matter considering also the long wait times. Also i really could care less about wait time if the food was coming out all up to temperature and tasting as it used to, but you have to suffer with both problems now.

Not sure i will bother going again as i have had enough, if this was last year i would easily have given it a 5 out of 5 but the recent lack of care to the product they are putting out is what is going to lose them more and...

If I could give a zero I honestly would, I went on the weekend it was atrocious. This might be the worst experience ever humanly possible. For context I am a big foodie and I love finding new places to dine. The food was nothing special it was soggy dry flavourless and rubbery . It tasted like something my two year old niece would cook in school .

Of course me being a big foodie I’m gonna find places that don’t tickle my fancy but this was extraordinary. the food was the least of my worries it was the attitude from the chef/manager it was disgusting and disgraceful. Its not a healthy facility. I could hear the commotion and snarky comments from the kitchen from where I was sat + there was no music . No one should have to work in that kind of pressure in a not very busy diner at the time. I wouldn’t come here again I suppose and I wouldn’t recommend it to...

We had a couple of all-day breakfasts which included everything you could want at a reasonable price and the quality was very good. However, finding a table that had been cleared and cleaned was difficult and we ended up on a small table by the entrance door which kept getting stuck on the doormat in the open position so I had to keep getting up to close it. The service was a little slow and haphazard so it is possible that they were understaffed or had inexperienced people working but we still felt that the serving staff could have been clearing tables in between serving customers. We'll give it another try when we're next...

As my Dad would call it, ‘A Greasy Spoon’. A tradee and English breakfast place. You know what you’re going to get. Pleasant staff, fair service and an English breakfast. If that’s why you’re going, as I do, then go. If you’re expecting something more, then don’t. I had sausages and beans. I’d liked for the sausages to have been better quality. For the venue: A cracking English breakfast is where you earn your reputation. Please don’t lose sight of that.

Nice friendly staff and clean cafe. Breakfast was nice but a couple adjustments could be made. For example sauces and salt and pepper should be placed on all the tables as well as menus. Only had a couple menu's by the till which isn't very useful and I would prefer to be able to look through the menu at own leisure. Would revist to try other items.

Haven't been here for a while, I think pre lockdown. It has since changed hands and had a refurbishment. I'm glad to say the standard is as good as it was before and the interior is very much improved. Has a lovely atmosphere now. Food as good as it ever was. Staff were absolutely lovely. Will definitely be back.
