Must try the mussels. About 50 mussels in a rich creamy mushroom soup. Very rich and fulfilling worth the price at £9.50 and can easily share between 2 people. They also give some ciabatta that you can dip into the soup with the mussels.
The fish and chips were average, crispy fish but the tartar sauce didn’t have much flavour and the chips were not crispy.
Excellent seating area that can get crowded at lunch times. Tables aren’t often cleaned right away after use and encourages self service to move finished plates to the stall once you’re done as a courtesy as they don’t have enough staff to cater to the cleanliness of the tables when busy.
The tempura prawns were also very crunchy and delicious as the batter is flavoured well. The scallops are juicy but the amount given for these dishes is little and therefore pricy. Half of the dish is salad.
Overall excellent service and attentive staff. Seating area could be more clean and attended to more often. Must try the mussels dish as I think this could be their signature dish, wouldn’t recommend the fish and chips. Try the tempura prawns and scallops is you like more seafood. Signage for restaurant could be better and chips more crispy. Definitely the best family-run seafood restaurant in Swanage. Made our experience here...
Read moreVisiting for a family outting while in the area. As there where 12 of us chose this above others as we where informed that they did gluten free fish and chips and several of our party including 2 children are gluten intolerant. Sure enough a sign said they offered such food but after half of us had ordered we where told they did not. By that point it was to late to cancel our orders so visited a nearby shop that did provide for a dietary requirements we grabbed a couple of extra fish for the children and rejoined the rest of our party who where already eatting. All was well until a waitress approach and said the children could not eat there food, after explaining the situation the waitress had zero interest and stormed off saying she was going to get her manager to come and remove us. We where gobsmacked by the response. So now we had no choice to but to move the 1yr old and 2yr old along with there food to a nearby bench so they could eat and let our food go cold. This was by far the most disgusting level of service I have ever experienced and there was no reason that the 2 children could not have been left to finish there meal especially as the rest of us had bought food from the premises spending over £150 on food and drink. Places like this do not deserve...
Read moreThe server noticed that my glass was dirty and poured the Prosecco from the dirty glass into another (dirty!) one! She then topped it up at the bar and tried to pass it off as a fresh glass. She had already taken another glass to the wrong table and the service was really slow so we were unimpressed. When we mentioned that we’d seen her pour the Prosecco from the dirty glass into another, she tried to deny it and the other servers said that the glass was “only dirty on the stem” because they pour coffee in the same area as they keep the glasses. This isn’t an excuse for a dirty glass as they should always be checked prior to serving. After 5 years in hospitality, I was shocked to see so many codes being broken. They did not offer a refund for the Prosecco and we were given back the drink and told it was “drinkable”. I felt really uncomfortable about this and did not want to drink old, flat Prosecco that had been poured out of a dirty glass. Upon paying the bill, we did not receive an apology. We were really disappointed as we had traveled out to this restaurant especially. We would give it 0 stars if we could, it’s level of hygiene and the manners of its staff need to...
