We've been to quite a few places to eat in the lakes this year and it's mostly been an absolute rip off, you can easily spend over £25 on parking alone in a day between different locations, 50p to go to the toilet, but this place breaks the mould. It's probably cheaper than most if not all of the places we've eaten at this holiday (2024) and the food has been high quality. The service from the moment we entered was first class. The staff were so attentive and in tune with each other. We'd ask for one thing from a member of staff and seconds later, someone else was at our table with what we'd asked for. Excellent for children too with the best and healthiest meal we've been able to choose for our child. He had a nice cheese and ham wrap which was served with lots of fresh fruit. He loved it.
Every time we've visited here we've enjoyed it. We need to go back before the end of our holiday so I can try their beef chilli!
Couldn't recommend enough. I think a lot of what would have been the regular places we've went to in the lakes have just been a major letdown with extortionate prices, poor quality food, small portions and poor...
Read moreVery disappointing. The service was very corporate, not at all friendly and we felt like we were inconveniencing the man by giving him our custom. There seemed no life or friendly atmosphere there. We ordered leek and potato soup which said it had thyme in it. I have never eaten leek and potato soup which was so dark green / brown in colour and so watery. You couldn't taste neither the leek or potato, only the thyme, which was so strong in flavour it was soapy tasting and not at all what soup should be like. Definitely not filling and wholesome! Neither of us could eat it so just left it. We didn't bother complaining due to the service we received as we thought they wouldn't really care, but won't return in the future. Some of the other food looked ok, so perhaps just avoid the soup! We also avoided the coffee as it looked so weak. If whoever makes the soup reads this, please taste it before giving it to customers. On a plus they offer a good choice for people who require gluten free...
Read moreWe were welcomed in at 3.30 pm on a rainy April day, when all the other cafes and restaurants in Grasmere had turned us away or closed their doors. We were soaking as were our dogs but Greens turned out to be a haven for the tired walker, looking for wholesome nourishment.
We met the lovely Karen, the owner, who left a London life to create something special in the lakes, a more wholesome and healthy offering than your average.
Generous portions arrived, seemingly all home made. I had a very simple but delicious chicken and humous sandwich accompanying a thick warming red lentil soup. Followed by a glorious slice of their home-made Bakewell tart, made with an abundance of ground almond, less sugar and hence healthier than anything you would buy commercially (or even in Bakewell, where I had recently been).
The staff (Karen’s offspring?) were lovely and attentive, and showed our dogs a lot of love.
We left feeling that fate had handed us a winning card in bringing...
