This restaurant is so unexpected for the Lake District. I was suspicious as the menu has a number of Philipino inspired dishes and I have been to the Philippines and thought the food quite ordinary. However, what a pleasant surprise the restuarant is cosy, quirky and has a chilled atmosphere. The staff are lovely and really helpful. We were booked in through Randy Pike and were extremely late but the restaurant was really accommodating and moved our booking. To the food, my partner who is a pescatarian and can't tolerate cream was well catered for she had the vegetarian flatbread from the specials board and then the 'thriller from Manilla minus the chicken as a main, both were delicious. I had the steamed dim sum to start, which were a take on Sui Mai, they were ok but being Chinese and used to eating dim sums, they didn't blow me away but that is my fault as these are neither Philippino or European, should have followed my gut instinic and gone for the beef go start! However, my main of the Malaysian seafood Curry was out of this world, full of jumbo prawns, salmon, etc in a creamy coconut curry sauce. I ordered it as the couple next to us had it and the girl was raving about it, but she was right, ot was so good. We finished with the specials dessert of Affogato which came with a home made Macaron and we ordered two liqueurs, which were well poured. The whole experience was great, the staff, the eclectic decor, the quality of the food, portion sizes, and service makes this a must for me whenever I visit the Lakes! Thanks guys...
Read moreIf you are in the Lake District, this is a cafe you must visit. We came here years ago and the food and atmosphere was perfect. Now, these years later, nothing has changed, except that the couple that ran it retired and their daughter has taken over with her partner. Friday, Saturday and Thursday are the days that the cafe is open. This is the reason that we have taken so long to get back as it did not correspond with the times we were down. Having said that, we were here now, my partner and I. It was a delight just walking into the cafe a real treat. The atmosphere is informal, warm, welcoming and convivial. The host was charming and friendly. He informed us about what was on the menu and was very knowledgeable about the ingredients of the food being freshly made and served. We shared a halloumi starter. I wish we had gotten one each. Then I had a pasta dish. It was so good, the plate was scraped clean. We then finished off with a dessert. Mmmmm, so, so, good. I overheard other dinners commenting on how delicious the food was. I even heard one couple making a booking for the following night. I would definitely recommend an evening at the Jumble Room. I, for one, will certainly...
Read moreWe were on a walking holiday here on the last Bank Holiday, there were 6 of us. We had pre-booked but due to getting held up walking Scafell Peak we were running really late and had no signal to let them know. Once we were finally able to use our phones we managed to get hold of Emily and let her know that we were going to be at least an hour late!! Thinking that the restaurant may now turn us away as it was going to be at least 9.30pm by the time we arrived but nothing could have been further from the truth, we were made to feel so so welcome and that nothing was an issue - even the fact that the 6 of us were going to have to come in all our walking gear. The service was second to none, so helpful, not at all rushed and friendly. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food, all the dishes were well cooked, delightfully served and obviously fresh with beautiful ingredients. Completely understand why this little place is a 4.8 and why it get's so booked up. It is really pretty inside with a lovely ambience. Thank you all so much so making the end of our day so memorable and special. 100% recommend this...
