Harlees Bradford-on-Avon — Restaurant in England

Visited Harlees for the second time as was passing through Bradford upon Avon. However made the mistake of changing my mind about eating in! I asked my server after I ordered if it would be any trouble to have my food in the restaurant rather than eat in my car. He said “yes that’s fine just sit down” so I sat and waited for my food. The restaurant was empty apart from someone working on a laptop. They called my number and I went to receive it and started returning to my seat. The server then said to me that I cannot eat in the restaurant because it was a takeaway order. I said excuse me but you’ve just told me that I could so I went to sit down. At which point the person working on a laptop stood up and also told me I wasn’t allowed to eat in the restaurant. My point is I asked your staff just after ordering if it was ok and they agreed , only to change their mind at a later stage. I felt that this was very rude and unflexible and as someone with a career in the hospitality industry I would always put my guests comfort before arbitrary rules. Amidst this some other diners had entered and said “why can’t you just give him a plate !” I totally agree. We have had the fish and chips here before and as fish and chips goes was enjoyable. Unfortunately the staff and their attitude let them down. It does feel like teenagers running the establishment without any customer service experience. Our experience tonight was a really distasteful experience. Signage on doors says closes at 8pm & no telephone number to ring beforehand to book or check. Arrived at 7pm to sit in restaurant told at 7.01pm too late as now 7.01pm so had “just closed”. Staff, particularly the girl with the face piercing, extremely rude and dismissive and unwilling to allow us to sit and eat. Told if you want anything to eat then you’ll have to get a takeaway. Then we go to find their takeaway delivery car had in the time we went in had blocked the cars in the car park. We walked in to the shop to ask for it to be moved to be told “you’ll have to wait until the next job”. Don’t think we will now be going back there from the attitude...

Was so lovely to spend quality time with my family, we decided to go to Harlees as a treat, on my lunch break I really wish we didn't bother, the chips were absolutely disgusting. Ended up we all ate the fish & gave all our chips to the birds, ( waste of our money) If didnt have to go backb to work, i would of taken the whole lot back. Plus seeing some one just picking up lemons to put on people's fish not using tongs,😱😱 Don't get me started on the toilets, when we went to use the toilets, could not believe for a restaurant that the toilet was so dirty, we both said about the dirty toilet brush at the back of toilet, was all covered in rust.
