The Saxon church is one of very few surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in England that does not show later medieval alteration or rebuilding, documentary sources suggest it may have been founded by Saint Aldhelm around 700, although the architectural style suggests a 10th- or 11th-century date. If you decide to visit Bradford on Avon, this is a must see. It's one of few intact Saxon Christian churches, created around the time of Æthelred the Unready. To fully appreciate what you are seeing, I'd recommend having a look on Google beforehand for a reliable description of the architecture...

Visited here a couple of years ago (March 2022) and thought I'd left a review but it's disappeared...spooky! St Laurence is the most wonderful place to reflect, breathe and relax. You just know upon entering it's an important place steeped in history and meaning. Go and see.
