High St Fisheries — Restaurant in England

Wish I’d read reviews before we visited & if only the owners took onboard the reviews left. Visited yesterday (26/11) on the way back from Thornwick Bay & met by a miserable man with absolutely no people skills. Hate to leave these type of reviews but the Fish was probably the worst fish I’d ever had the misfortune of eating. Oily tasteless undercooked batter, white fish in some places but horrid. Chips that just tasted of oil. Carton of nice but hardly warm peas. Ordered a can of pop but wasn’t given a choice of flavours, guy just put a can of coke on counter lol. Very expensive compared to most other chip shops. Decent portion sizes tho but left 70% of it anyway. The only positive thing I can say is fortunately we’d parked opposite the dustbin so at least I didn’t have to walk to far to throw it away. ‘Odd’ is probably the best description for this chip shop.

As a positive, the lady serving was lovely, quick, and overall just fantastic (I’m sure the guy is as well, he was just very busy cooking at the time)

Negatives - the food is weird. So weird, that I’m still not sure whether I liked it. I’ve had some terrible fish and chips throughout my life - mostly because of what has happened to most chip shops in more urban areas - but this is the first one where I still can’t decide whether I liked it but I think that was answered this morning.

The batter seemed more like a southern fried chicken batter and looked quite pale. The chips didn’t have much crisp, some were under cooked, and were also quite pale. However, the chips actually tasted quite nice and weren’t greasy at all.

However, it’s the next morning where reality hit us and the toilet bowl… all I can say...

Well what can I say, the service was excellent and the lady serving was really chatty and friendly HOWEVER, this must have been the worst fish & chips I have ever had! I had planned to go to the chippy further up the road but it was closed, it was only 5pm (I normally eat a bit later) and I was the only customer there, the fish went in the fryer but came out with the thinnest tasteless batter ever, but the worst was to come, the chips were horrendous! With going in at 5pm, I think I was the first customer since their lunch time rush and ended up with the warmed up dregs which were like rubber and tasteless! I can cope with the “batterless” fish, but the chips were out of order and this Takeaway should be embarrassed to call itself a...
