I had prebooked a table for 1.45pm. When we arrived we were seated told to order our food and drinks at the bar. After looking at the menus, myself and my husband went and ordered our meals and drinks for the 5 members of us at the table. We sat back down for around 15minutes then a member of staff came and told us that the food now has a 50-minute wait, my husband asked her why we were not told this on arrival or ordering or meals? instead we are told when we had been there for around 30minutes, some time after ordered our meals and drinks. That would mean it was almost 1 and a half hours from the time we booked our table for. That is a ridiculous amount of time and to not be told it on your arrival. My husband ask the member of staff If something could be sorted on the bill for this avoidable inconvenience, she looked blankly at him and went off. 30 MINUTES LATER, my husband called the same member of staff over and asked if anything was sort?, she replied "that would be something you need to speak to the manager about". As you can imagine this was very frustrating as my husband was not told that when he first spoke to that member of staff and she had not told the manger hereself either. instead he had to call her over to quiry... we were seated, sat and forgotten about! When we were finally served with our meals, myself and my son sat without our meals for about 10minutes while the rest of the table ate. When ours finally arrived everyone else was almost finished eating. It was the worse experiences I have had when going out for food and with having to pay before you receive your meals, there is nothing we could do about it. We were not asked once if everything was OK with our meals, like I said seated, sat and forgot about. Times are expensive and going our for a meal is a luxury for some, what we experienced was no luxury, no enjoyment and a...
Read moreBestie & I were travelling back from North Wales to West Midlands tired & hungry when I suggested we pull off the main drag, drive through the town of Oswestry to find somewhere to eat. No joy had until The Highwayman came into view thankfully, looking bright, busy & very inviting.
We were greeted by a really pleasant, cheerful staff member who we asked if food was still being served. She explained apologetically that due to unforseen circumstances the kitchen would be closing soon, but if we chose a table & ordered from the menu fairly quickly a she would ensure we got a meal, which suited us as we needed to eat-&-run anyway. We both had curry which arrived promptly, each with a poppadom, mango chutney + a large naan which was filling & tasty & we were politely asked by the waiter on serving these if there was anything anything else we would like which was nice touch.
The place was clean & tidy. No sticky table. Cutlery, condiments & menus all in place & no food residue on them, as is often the case in busy food pubs.
We found the toilets very clean. (The womens also smelt quite divine!) & a pleasure to use, which at that time in the evening is usually not the case whenever you happen to be. Just one suggestion, all the inside doors of the cubicles could definately do with a hook affixed for hanging bags upon. The designs of the ceramic toilets are lovely & look new, however the contemporary sloping cistern, whilst being a sensible idea to deter it being used for other purposes, won't allow a hand, or shoulder bag to placed on it either. Only a minor negative but an important one for female customers especially who almost always carry one, though it didn't spoil my/our experience of the establishment. We were...
Read moreWrong place on Google maps, not their fault, but not helpful. Friendly greeting on arrival, that was the highlight. Ordered food through a QR code linked to an online system, seemed reasonably straightforward at first. Some of the order turned up then two attempts to get the rest, eventually turning up after the main was finished , and this was just for one person. One friend had to go through the ordering process three times but only found out the dish wasn't available at the end of the process the first two times and had to start again. Several of the drinks we ordered at the bar on arrival weren't on the online menu. The pie was described as heaving a short crust base and crispy flaky pastry top. As it had been microwaved, all of it was very soggy. Sweet potato fries were OK, peas overcooked, onion rings greasy (and late), cheesy garlic bread very light on the garlic part (and also late). As we were outside, we had to pick up our own cutlery. Not normally an issue, but the first attempt only got us one fork. We asked the staff, who said he would get it filled up. Our second attempt (about 5 minutes later) got us 0 forks. Another reminder and a couple more minutes, we eventually found some on a table inside that was reserved.... sorry to the people when they turned up to their reserved table that they would have been four forks short! Wouldn't really recommend it. The food at the Premier Inn (where we were staying) was better, but we should have made the effort to go into town to find something...
