Hungate Reading Cafe — Restaurant in England

Visited in the middle of the day (1pm), with my toddler on a weekday and my experience may not be representative, so take this review with a pinch of salt.

Lots of men working on laptops, so very quiet and industrious... which is great but not when you're bringing a toddler who wants to play in the play area. The coffee was good. The staff were ?bored?, but also not thrilled about being disturbed by taking my order... I was basically interrupting their chat.

So not a great experience but as I said, almost certainly not...

Hungate Reading Cafe is a little hidden gem in York's city centre! Our family visits often with our toddler, and it's one of very few places where we can have a relaxed coffee as she looks at books and plays with toys. We held her 3rd birthday party here in December, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff were lovely & helpful, especially when I said it was my first visit. The library was really quiet which I enjoyed. I liked the choice of books even though it's quite small in the quantity that they have. What didn't work for me was how hard the industrial style tables and chairs were.
