My visit began during a rather busy dinner period on a Saturday, but I was promptly greeted and led to my table. A small table near the service hatch and away from the hustle and bustle of the bar. The interior of the restaurant is rustic, homey, and yet gives a hint of sophistication... but that could be due to the numerous portraits of nature, wildlife, and famous historical British figures. The lighting helped heighten the warm, cosiness of the restaurant, with small lamps on tables and ballroom-esque light fitments on the ceiling. Water was served to the table in a vase, with a crystal-cut patterned glass. However, although seated as far away from the bar as is possible, the noise emanating from there was at times a bit extreme making it difficult to hear the waitress.
I felt that both the drinks menu and the food menu were very good. The drinks menu was incredibly comprehensive, gave details of flavours, location, and dietary information. Cosy Club sell their house wine by medium or large glass, or a bottle, but have some wines sold only by the bottle.
The starter was Garlic & Paprika Prawns. This dish is three garlic, lemon, and chilli king prawns that have been tossed in smoked paprika butter, and then served on toasted sourdough bites. This dish was almost perfect, but lacked the finer attention to detail that I would expect for Cosy Club. The prawns themselves were cooked beautifully, exploding with flavour when bitten into. Paired with the smoked paprika butter, they complimented each other impeccably. However, the toasted sourdough bites were what let this dish down... insufficient toasting gave them an almost stale mouthfeel and really drew the attention away from the wonderful flavour profile of the other components.
Next, Entree. A 6oz Flat Iron Steak, requested medium-rare, with a side order of onion rings and peppercorn sauce. You'll note that I stated "requested" here and not "served", as it was served rare. Despite being undercooked for the request, I decided to give it a try and perhaps enjoy a different experience with a rare steak. It is safe to say that that was not the case. Not only was the steak undercooked, it was also under-seasoned... bordering unseasoned. The shallot and mustard butter was a vital addition to the dish, even though it was clearly removed from the fridge just moments before the dish was served as it was still hard. The gem salad that accompanies this dish sounded wonderful. I imagined a beautiful side salad, with a small variety of vegetables. Reality, though, is far from the imagination. What was served was a lettuce, chopped in half, covered in Caesar dressing and cheese. The saving grace for this dish was the fries, cooked to crispy, crunchy, perfection. The onion rings, although not originally intended to be served with the dish, became vital in making this feel like a complete dish due to the lackluster salad.
Now, we come on to the dessert. A Lemon Posset, served with fresh raspberries and all-butter shortbread. If I was to say that this was the best part of the meal, it would be an understatement. The zesty lemon flavour came through like a punch to the face, practically begging you to eat more while the smooth, creaminess allows you to do just that. Mixing that flavour with the fresh raspberry took the profile to the next level, in my opinion. The pairing of the sweet and sour was perfect. "What about the shortbread" you may ask... well, I found that the shortbread is ideal at providing a short respite from the citrussy domination before I inevitably went back for more.
Overall, this was a great experience and I will definitely be returning... but maybe I'll go for something other than the steak.

Notified the waitress that I have a citrus allergy when ordering my drink, just to make sure a lemon slice wasn’t put in it and have been left wishing I hadn’t said anything at all. The waitress immediately looked horrified and stopped the order, rushing off to get the manager like it was an emergency and no one else was equipped to deal with the HUGE SITUATION of 🚩🚩🚩‼️‼️‼️Someone With An Allergy 🚩🚩🚩‼️‼️‼️ Waitress came back five minutes later and said she would take the order after all as it was too busy to get the manager. I ordered the House rostis with toppings of avocado, halloumi, and bacon. Ten minutes after ordering, the manager came over to our table, stopped the whole conversation and asked who has the allergy, said everything should be fine. I continued to be interrupted in the middle of conversations with my friends no less than five times before the food arrived. Once to say that the smashed avocado contained lemon juice but they could make it fresh for me without the lemon juice and so would I like that? …..obviously I would like the avocado without the thing i’m allergic to in it, why do you need to ask me? Another time to say that actually I wasn’t having avocado smash anyway, just plain avocado, so it didn’t matter. Another time to then say that the pre-mix for the rostis contained lemon or lime juice so I couldn’t have rostis. honestly was quite shocked that the rostis weren’t made fresh in the first place as it’s quite simple to grate some potato and fry it together with onion, and even so if they usually have a pre-mix then why could they make me some fresh? Instead I was offered hash browns, and unfortunately I did think these would be a little more than some frozen hash browns from the supermarket stuck in the microwave, but I suppose I was wrong! Before the food came i was interrupted AGAIN to be told that the grill has had food containing citrus in it, with no soloution offered lol. They didn’t say “but we’ve made sure to prepare your food separately” or “we’ve cleaned it throughly” like many other restaurants and cafes I’ve been to have said. they were just waiting for me to say “that’s okay” so that I wouldn’t sue them if I had a bad reaction. I strongly had the impression that they didn’t care whatsoever about my health and the actual allergy but that they just cared about not being sued. I was optimistic when my friends food came as they got burgers and they looked really nice with coleslaw, nice presentation etc. However my food then arrived last and is pictured below. I have no idea why they couldnt even be bothered to put it on one plate but even that seemed was too much trouble. To have two red flags on my food as well as a red allergy sticker on my drink is frankly embarrassing and massively singled me out as "different". There's no need for the stupid red flags, but worse than that the food was literally something i would have made for myself as a sad dinner when theres only a couple of things in the fridge. It was a cold hard tiny piece of cut up avocado, a tiny piece of bacon, and a small bit of halloumi on one 🚩🚩🚩 ALLERGY FLAGGED 🚩🚩🚩 plate and two clearly supermarket brought warmed up frozen hash brown on another plate. No salad, no garnish, no sauces, no seasoning. Just four dry ingredients. For this and a coke I paid £13.65 🙃🙃🙃 I almost would have rather had an allergy attack and got a proper meal like my friends did and not been singled out, interrupted multiple times, and...
Read moreI’m not someone to leave negative reviews whatsoever but my boyfriend and I ended up walking out of this Cosy Club today before being served. When we first entered the restaurant at around 12:25pm, we spoke to the girl who was hosting. She said there weren’t any tables yet however we were welcome to sit in the comfy chairs and sofa area. We went and sat down with menus. What we didn’t understand was that we were meant to go up to the bar and order our food and drinks ourselves. This of course is absolutely fine, we were just a little confused as we were under the impression that we were going to be seated at a table once there was one free. We saw other parties of people who walked in after us getting seated at tables so we were super confused. My boyfriend went up to the host to ask and see what the situation was. She was extremely rude to him and said “well there’s no tables for you now. That is where you’re sitting” and then immediately moved on to chatting to other guests in the queue. We were a little jarred by this as my boyfriend was being perfectly friendly and was only wanting to ask a clarifying question. I understand it’s Christmas time and it’s getting busy, especially on a Sunday. I have so much respect for all those who work in any form of hospitality but did not feel it was fair to be spoken to in such a brash manner. We did end up leaving and I don’t think anyone noticed but I don’t think...
