Jake's Plaice - Fish & Chips — Restaurant in England

Myself, my partner and a family member visited here recently as we'd had a long journey and wanted a quick meal to take back to our holiday let. The owner was pleasant, friendly and chatty. Prices were considerably higher than we're used to paying for fish and chips but we expected that to be the case in a small town with not much footfall. Portion sizes were a little on the small size, which felt like poor value for money based on the higher than average cost. Although I enjoyed my food, my partner and her family member didn't enjoy theirs at all. Specifically, the chips were very dark, hard and overcooked as if they'd been warmed up from earlier in the day or been sat for hours in the holding area waiting for customers. I finished mine, but the ladies wasted theirs. Yes, they were not great, but not horrible either. Overall a half decent chipshop, if a little overpriced for small portioned overcooked chips which could be improved by selling...

Service, great, sadly cash only. Atmosphere ok inside. Food, sadly was just terrible. Chips wasn’t very nice fish cakes sadly over done and burn. Fish was just big standard. Batter was nice though, fish was OK. Curry sauce was nice though.

It was expensive to say the food we got compared to other fish and chips in York. Portion sizes wasn’t the best either. Not the best food, my partner hardly had any before putting it in the bin. Waste of money sadly, not for us.

We where stay in Huby for a couple of days and after a long day in York we decide to go to this local chippy. I had a small fish and chips, the fish was huge, chips the best we'd tasted in a long time. My hubby was thrilled as they had a traditional fishcake, which are virtually impossible to find. He said it was delicious and went back to compliment the owner who was very friendly.
