I booked a table for 7.15pm on Saturday 3rd May for 7 people. At 5pm I received an email reminding me of my table. At just after 7pm we arrived and was shown to our table inside. We had specifically asked for an inside table and were really pleased as was getting chilly. The atmosphere is wonderful. The Waitresses did a great job and I can't fault them. Unfortunately this is where my positive feedback ends. We did not get our pizzas until 9,15pm!!!! Tables around us were getting up and leaving as they had been waiting so long. The large table behind us when they finally got their pizzas - got them two at a time! There was 10 of them! We should have left but we had two children with us that were very hungry. One of our party did leave through frustration when the waitress told us she'd give us free desserts!!!! The manager explained that only one chef turned up at 4pm and apologised to say the waitresses should have managed our expectations. This is what a manager is for?? Why wasn't I told in the email at 5pm? Why didn't someone call me and tell me the situation and allow me to make a decision as to whether we still wanted the table? Why wasn't I told when I arrived at 7pm? Why wasn't I told when we placed our order? There were at least 5 waitresses that I took note of- why didn't one of them go into the kitchen to assist the chef? putting toppings on pizzas is not rocket science! YOU SHOULD MANAGE EXPECTATIONS!! When my pizza finally arrived ( I was probably the last on our table as, again, they only came out two at a time) it wasn't cooked properly. The mozzarella was still in raw cube form! It looked like it took 20 seconds to prep and about 30 seconds to cook. They took the pizzas off the bill but we still paid £170 as we'd had so many more drinks than usual waiting for our food! Bitterly disappointed.

For our first dinner of the trip we decided to try the jam jar restaurant as it came highly recommended. Despite not having a booking they quickly got us seated, the outside area was clean, well decorated and had a good vibe to it. Staff were friendly and quick to take our drink order. The 2 spritzes we had were tasty, more so the aperol, but the limoncello was still nice. The only issue we had with the restaurant came from the 2 starters, which I would not recommend. The olives turned up and instantly looked very unappealing with blemishes and had clearly spent a long time in a jar. They were very mushy and had little taste and sadly had to be sent back. Following this, we also ordered a charcuterie board which along side the normal meats came with breadsticks…. and a dish of pickles. These very strange accompaniments made up quite a lack luster charcuterie board which I was underwhelmed by. Sadly, I would not recommend either of these starters (especially for the cost). Now for the main event. The pizza. Fabulous, and what an upgrade from the starters. It came quickly and both the dough and sauce were very tasty. We ordered one with vegan cheese which was very tasty and I would highly recommend for anyone with a dairy intolerance and a ham and mushroom where the variation of different mushrooms was highly appreciated. Overall the pizzas were excellent and while the starters were not up to par I would hate for them to overshadow what great pizza this restaurant offers. I do think I wouid happily return for a pizza on my next trip down.

We had a very entertaining visit to the Jam Jar for lunch on Sunday 6 Sept earlier this year. W1 "Who are these toasties for?!" W2 "Oh, the man and the woman" W1 (oh I'll just try this couple, nope, next couple, nope, next couple) (as a couple ourselves we could have had 10 toasties if we wanted!) Customer table 1 "What wines do you have?" W1 "Erm no just beer" Customer "It looks like there's wine on a specials board over there?" W1 "Let me check" W1 (goes to find W2) W2 (goes to wrong table) "Did you ask about wine?" Customer table 2 "no it was that table over there?" W1 (goes to right table) "Here's the wine list" (They actually have table numbers and ask for your table number when ordering, so why they made their own jobs much more difficult by not actually using that information I don't know!) Anyway, it wasn't bad service, just incompetent service which we didn't really mind as it made things entertaining! We had toasties, iced coffees, a frangipane cake and a croissant. The coffees were good, toasties were tasty if a little small, the cake was great, and the croissant very stale. So 4/5 for the foods.

We’ve had coffees, chai lattes, cruffins, cookies & ice cream from the Jam Jar in the daytime which have all been excellent but last night we had pizza & cocktails which were even more incredible. The staff were attentive and professional, the atmosphere was very vibrant and our food was exceptional. I think it may have been the best pizza we’ve ever had. All of the pizzas were very generous on the toppings. The nduja pizza was quite spicy but it was that delicious, moreish spice, not just the type of spice that blows your head off and gives you a nose bleed 🤣 the Brie & fig pizza was amazing - such a lovely flavour combination, salty, sweet & creamy. My husband had the pulled pork pizza and sang high praises. We all had empty plates! The cocktails were a nice treat too, the amaretto sour was exactly to my taste 👌🏻 My only small piece of constructive criticism is that it would be really great if there was a smaller sized pizza for children. Our 3yr old had a margarita pizza (they just do 12” pizzas) and obviously it was huge for her (we were given a box to take the pizza home so that was fine as we’ll eat it today) and I can appreciate it might be tricky to cater for children, however it would have been even more perfect if a kids pizza/smaller size was part of the menu or offered just for children. I really rate the Jam Jar - definitely visit if you’re in...
