We booked a table for three adults knowing it's a busy time of year. We turned up 10 minutes early and enjoyed a drink as we waited. A waitress kindly told us that there was a short wait for our table but she would take our order there and then so that things would move more quickly for us. We were seated at our table around 15 minutes later, which wasn't a problem, however then had to wait a full hour for our food to be brought out with a 5 minute wait for the third meal to join the other two. There was no warning of a delay, no update from waiting staff even after enquiring at the 45 minute mark, then no explanation or apology on arrival. The main meals were decent enough quality (thankfully we hadn't chosen starters!) but really not worth the extended wait. We did go for desserts but these were a further 30 minutes appearing and again, only 2 out of 3 appeared for 10 minutes and neither with a spoon (had to ask). The sticky toffee pudding was the highlight (light, moist, yummy) and was worth a delay. After a polite request that our bill reflect the waiting time we were given 10% off the price of the main meals, but this came grudgingly and not without a certain amount of muttering from one particular waitress. The service was highly rated on previous reviews which was one of the reasons we chose to go there - unfortunately we did not experience that. It's a pretty pub in a scenic area but basic inside and people were crammed in like sardines. It's a dog-friendly pub so at least as we were waiting there was entertainment from a lovely golden retriever squeezed into a gap between us and the neighbouring table. If we were to go there again it would be for a pint then a walk, not an...
Read moreWe’ve been visiting Crantock once or twice a year for the past 30 years and we always enjoy a meal at the Albion. Well this year was our first time down in 3 years and we were excitedly looking forward to a meal at the Albion, we got here at 6, it was fairly full but still a handful of tables free and we sat down. We ordered drinks and then asked for menus to be told they were not doing food tonight, I asked what they meant as there were plenty of people sat down with food, I was then told they were fully booked, again this made no sense as we had a table, finally we were told they only had one chef so they were only serving food to people that were booked. We had checked the website and the Facebook page before we left and there was no mention of this and also no signs around and no one told us before we ordered drinks. We were understandably annoyed so we left and found somewhere else to eat. The next night on the Sunday we thought we’d pop in for a drink on our last night, to then be told they were closed…at 7pm!! Because they close early on a Sunday! The opening times on Google and their own Facebook state open until 11pm. Overall shocking service and not what you expect of a pub in a busy tourist spot at the end of June, this place has definitely...
Read moreVisited on Fri eve, spent £80 between us, (wife and 2 small kids) 4 clean plates, food was excellent, new waitress was 1st class, great experience, HOWEVER, thought we'd go back Sunday eve as it was so good, ordered 4 roast dinners, 3 lamb 1chicken, the chicken was chargrilled not roasted and my fussy boy doesn't like chargrilled so I had to have it, just as well as the lamb was awful, rubbery with no flavour, my boy ended up with just veg, the dog enjoyed it though! Explained to the waitress the meats let down the dinner which was otherwise very nice, explained to waitress about Friday's experience for comparison, waitress (although lovely) just said sorry, (not looking for a free meal but a tiny gesture of goodwill would have been sufficient and kept our custom especially as we have spent £130+ in 2 visits). Probably thought we were on hols and wouldn't see us again, but we only live a short distance and take the kids surfing near by. when we find a pub we like we tend to stick with it, however at their prices, quality of meats and lack of goodwill on this occasion, we're not sure if we will chance it again. Shame as it's a lovely pub and...
