Sadly they canât get many âwalk-insâ here, as the appearance from the outside isnât welcoming. It looks like some sort of bunker on a council estate. They may as well put up a sign saying âDo Not Enter!â However, luckily we did; to find inside, a very well-appointed restaurant.
Maybe the outside appearance is deterring people? - as there were only two other diners. Such a shame, as the food really deserves to be widely appreciated. Itâs that good. The best in the region by miles.
There is a no-frills laminated menu of the basic kind, which reminded me of a past life of regular visits to Brick Lane in London, (or indeed India itself). Thankfully, the authenticity extended to the food as well, it is home marinated, fresh and using top ingredients.
This was our second visit and it will now become our regular place for âIndianâ cuisine. I urge you to go there, as you will not find better!
All meats are succulent and portions are generous. Spice can be as much or as little as you like. We went with a pal of Pakistan heritage (who loves his curry) and he he REALLY rated it too.
We ordered off the quite short Nepalese Specialities section. We began with the ubiquitous poppadoms served with a good pickle tray. Knowing portions are good, we shared a single tandoori special amongst 4 of us. Excellent.
All main dishes and sides were superb. (The sides are meals in themselves!).
This place food-wise is unlike anything weâve had in Devon & Cornwall. A real home-cooking feel; the spices and herbs etc. were cooked and prepared in the kitchen, not merely covered with bought-in sweet sauces and powders as one often encounters.
We had the Momo Lamb; dry chilli chicken (requested mild); Lamb Korahi and a Lamb Vindaloo. All were tender and delicious. We chatted with the owner, a Nepalese national, who was very informative about the ingredients and preparation. Lovely chap.
We washed it all down with some lovely Kathmandu Lagers and diet cokes. The bill, with service was excellent value at ÂŁ140 for 4 of us; and we still needed âdoggie bagsâ to take home with us.)
All I can say is, ignore the frontage; and enjoy genuine high-quality food that offers something different and is freshly cooked and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Kathmandu Nepalese and Indian Cuisine in Launceston, and it was an incredible experience! The restaurant offers an authentic taste of Nepalese and Indian dishes, with flavors that truly transport you to the heart of the Himalayas and India.
The moments of delight began with their warm hospitality and cozy ambiance. The staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to recommend dishes based on our preferences.
We tried the momo (Nepalese dumplings) and the butter chicken, both of which were outstanding. The momos were freshly steamed, bursting with flavor, and served with a tangy dipping sauce that complemented them perfectly. The butter chicken was rich, creamy, and had just the right balance of spices, paired beautifully with their fresh naan and aromatic basmati rice.
The highlight was the goat curry, which was tender, flavorful, and authentically spiced, reminding me of traditional Nepali home-cooked meals.
For dessert, the gulab jamun was a sweet, satisfying end to a perfect meal.
Overall, Kathmandu Nepalese and Indian Cuisine is a must-visit for anyone who loves bold flavors and authentic dishes. Whether you're new to this cuisine or a seasoned foodie, youâll find something to love here. Highly recommended, and Iâll...
Read moreDisappointing experience. Booked to dine in for first time as we were missing our previous Nepalese restaurant. We were the only diners for at least an hour. It took a while for anyone to take our drinks order and then I had to ask for mine when only my husbands was bought over. The young girls front of house were more interested in their mobile phones and openly moaning about how the manager would not let them have the heating on. Very unprofessional. We were warned the starter would be 20 mins. We waited forty five mins. They seem more interested in getting the take aways out and definitely at the expense of sitting in diners. Probably explains why it was so quiet. Very little authentic Nepalese on the menu. It was 1 hrs 35 before we got our main course. Food was ok but my husband had an upset stomach the next day. Would not return. Advice to management, please invest in some training for your front of house staff so your diners get better service and just advertise as Indian,...
