My uncle rang to book the back room for a wake. He asked to book food for 50 guests and was told the portions are very big so he could pay for 30 and there would be enough to feed 50. He was also told there would be complimentary tea & coffee for arrival of guests. However, when we arrived there was no drinks there and the food portions were tiny n no where near enough for the guests. Also the variety of food was shocking and quality not great. The sandwiches were dry, pork pie tasted funny and cucumber and carrots dry. My uncle went to explain and a very rude staff member (blonde haired woman) was quite abrupt and unapologetic. Her customer service skills, or lack thereof, were appalling. We were told eventually that they agreed we needed more food but we had to wait because "there are other customers not just us" and they brought out some chips and a small bowl of nuggets. The coffee was tepid and not hot. The tables and chairs were also dangerous due to the very uneven floor. Also there are still christmas decorations up on the 22nd April and not ideal decorations for a wake. At almost 10 pound per head we expected more food and regardless of cost you expect welcoming friendly staff which wasnt what we experienced. It meant that people dispursed quicker than we normally would have and put a dampner on what should of been our time to celebrate the life of our...
Read moreLovely brewery bar, lovely looking room for events, though the main part of the pub looks old in a way that is dingy and outdated, opposed to cosy and rustic. There's also a nice garden at the rear of the brewery bar. The bar staff were friendly, and the manager mildly resembled an English Dylan Morran.
It'd be petty to give the pub a 1 star review based solely on unpleasant décor, however. The reason this pub gets one star is the landlord. He is without a doubt one of the most bitter, nasty pieces of work I've ever had the misfortune to deal with.
I've spent a lot of time working and managing bars and functions; I would never have dreamt of addressing anyone the way he did. He was simply miserable for...
Read moreWe stayed in Yorkshire for a long weekend and going off the reviews of this place we thought it would be worth a trip. I was wrong. It wasn't welcoming at all, Me and my wife walked in with our dogs stood at the bar to be told to go round the other side as dogs are only allowed on that side of the bar, we said where? Considering we hadn't ever been before the server was so rude and pointed us in the direction. We then waited at the bar for a while and the service was appalling. Fair enough it was busy but not once did they say hello or told us they wouldn't be long. In the end we walked out, very busy pub, full of regulars who were clearly...
