This is a bit if a rough pub. Using Weatherspoons as a yardstick; think more expensive, more likely to encounter people that seem aggressive while the food is worse across the board. As you enter the pub you have a pub/restart to the left (the nicest bit of the pub), then to the right a bar with pool table and usual gambling things (very rough looking here) and a beer garden to the rear (wooden tables on AstroTurf covered in cigarette buts) I have been there a couple of times because it is close and each time I wish I had not. The first time I ordered a blue cocktail for my lady and a clear cocktail with a bit of brown at the bottom arrived. I pointed out to the bar lady that if blue curacao had been added the drink would be blue as in the picture on the menu and she got a bit aggressive so I dropped it. I'll add this, it's impossible for a clear drink to not turn blue if it is added (I was a cocktail barman in college) The second time I ordered the mushroom salad (a main dish and certainly cost main dish price) What I got was one mushroom cut into several pieces lying on a few wilted leaves. It was smaller than a Weatherspoons side dish and way passed its use by date. As each time I went I was with other people I did see that the normal pub grub was better but again not great. So in closing if you think Weatherspoons is posh and all you want is a normal pint or burger then you may...
Read more30/09/20 Been looking for a new place to eat. Been here a few times. Got on with the staff ok. Different today. Arrived needing the toilet. Got pretty much shouted at for moving around without a mask. Was ordered to stand there until she felt like seating us. Thin blond. First time we met her. Told her I cant stand long due to disability. Not interested. She was rude enough I asked her if we should go somewhere else. BTW I am mask exempt. Not offered menus. Ordered 3 gammon meals, and 6 teas. £36. Pay now - we dont do tabs. Astonished by the attitude. Food was well cooked, but was the smaller gammon from the menu, rather than the large ones I think we paid for. Do you want a receipt? Got the feeling yes was the wrong answer, even though I had paid cash. We ate quickly and left. Thought we were going to be happy here. Going to continue looking...
Read moreA hidden gem hiding in the open! Years ago this place had a well deserved rep as a rough old place. However, new management have clearly worked overtime to turn the place around. Now there’s well cared for beer, awesome food at realistic prices and (finally!) staff with a sense of humour who give and take banter! What a breath of fresh air. It’s sadly too far from my place to become my local, but it’s midway between mine and my brothers place. It’s now our compromise meeting place to watch F1 or football, and we couldn’t be happier. Good beer, good food, good atmosphere and great banter! Nuff said! Don’t pass this place by. It really is a hidden gem in plain sight that deserves to do well. We’re delighted to return every...
