Fantastic view, lovely service and a nice setting, however we were a bit underwhelmed by the food…The Lamb was nicely presented but basically raw, although I ate it as didn’t want to send back as it was my wife’s birthday dinner….her Plaice was “ok”, perhaps a little over cooked, the Courgette side was lovely, the portions were very small. Several people complained of the temperature and despite best efforts, it was…the door refused to close properly and windows were still left open so a “cool” breeze was evident throughout our meal…I was dressed in short sleeves expecting the weather to be a little better, but they could have closed the windows. We were tempted to revisit but the other thing was the menu was very small….to be fair it may change daily, but if it doesn’t I would be disappointed if I was staying here expecting a culinary delight every evening…you would be eating the same thing a couple of times as not everything would have been your choice (A an allergic to shell fish as an example, which was 25% of the “mains”). Would I recommend? Sadly not, and in reality its a 3.5 starts based on the food, but the place is great and the staff great, so I am happy to keep it at 4……had there been a bit more choice, especially of fish, it would again rate higher and we would have...
Read moreRead a review a few months ago of this restaurant and cant agree more The service was great!! The starters were good.
The mains were not good. We ordered the monkfish with risotto and sides of cavalo nero; and broccoli and Cauliflower cheese. The cavolo nero was cabbage. The broccoli and cauli cheese was just cauli cheese and overcooked. We didn't eat these and I did complain. Not sure if I've been charged for those yet as haven't had the bill....
The monkfish was perfectly cooked but Jesus the risotto was salt salt salt. I couldn't eat it. Squid ink is salty so adding any extra salt when cooking would be a bad idea. I think the chef has seasoned without tasting first. It was inedible.
The service was great. Staff were amazing. Setting was lovely apart from a little to bright in the evening... maybe mood lighting would be better after 7pm?
Desserts were good. Blue cheese of the day was from York which was disappointing... I own a cheese shop in the Westcountry and with so many incredible blue cheeses from Devon and Cornwall, not sure why you would pick Yorkshire 🤷‍♀️ we have so many incredible producers here.
Shame because the hotel is really nice for the price (winter/spring stay) we loved the gym and the...
Read moreWOW! My husband and I stayed at the hotel 15th - 17th July and we pre booked a table at the Dune Restaurant for the 16th which was our 3 year anniversary. They did everything they could do make it special for us (especially under the circumstances with Covid-19), the service was amazing and the food - I'm still salivating thinking about it. We started off with a couple of cocktails and opted for a main and dessert. To our surprise, the waiter appeared with two complimentary glasses of champagne, homemade bread and a starter to share that was absolutely mouth watering (marinated burrata) and also on the house! The bread was delicious. I ordered the crab linguine for main which was so delicious I would gladly jump in my car and drive the 6 hours to Newquay from Peterborough to have it again. My husband had the steak which was superb. We both had the lemon tart for dessert. After polishing off a carafe of red wine, we were in our element. What an absolutely special anniversary meal with really attentive staff, 5* food and an amazing view. I would definitely love to book again - perhaps we'll see you in a year for our next anniversary! Thanks you so much, look forward to dining...
