Tried to book a christening on the 6th Nov Took a tour was very happy with the size Said I could bring my own buffet and didn’t want a hire charge which I expected to pay. Then we went for a drink the next night to be told that maybe I have to have their buffet and not take my own someone would phone me on Saturday or Sunday, so I went in tonight Wednesday and said I was expecting a phone call the woman said oh we have had technical issues and the phones haven’t worked ( great lie) then the landlady came through and said no I couldn’t make my own buffet due to allergies, I said I would be happy to pay a room hire fee and bring my own she said No and it’s £11 a head, I told her I used to own a pub and when I did events and christenings I gave the people a choice but they always picked my buffet @£5 a head and I certainly didn’t turn down the possibility of making over £1000 in one afternoon on drinks, her response was well il have Christmas parties. Well I hope you make a boat load of money on that Sunday in November love… cause it won’t be from me even though we are next door at the church. I have over 100 people coming and they would not eat £11’s worth of food each But would definitely spend a lot of money behind the bar So you have lost our business not only for the christening but for any other event or...
Read moreOrdered 2 breakfasts a pot of tea & a cappuccino. Asked for a tray to carry drinks back to table staff member said he didn't know where they were ..a kind lady helped carry other drink as staff didn't offer, The tea tasted like the water had been boiled over & over .. a horrible aftertaste..think the hot water still needs flushing out & cleaning ..staff changed drink he used hot water from the coffee machine ..still didn't taste right but not as bad thankfully. Cappuccino was a bit watery too unfortunately. Breakfast came fairly prompt & was lovely and well worth the price ..my mother had been a lot of times previously & said how nice it was but service & standards had dropped recently & staff shortages were a problem meaning some days food wasn't on The guy serving was pleasant enough & well-meaning, but I think he just needs a bit of training ..he did come & check drink was OK & asked if we enjoyed our breakfast to which we told him it was lovely & he relayed that to the chef. A few tweaks here & there & it would have been spot on ..venue was lovely, seating area clean & ample parking where they refund your £1 parking inside the pub ..planning to bring my kids for main meal soon as they are reasonably priced & have meal &...
Read moreRight in the heart of Hessle this pub hasn't changed much over many years and that's one of the problems. Yes eating was introduced a few years ago but I cannot remember the decor having a refurbishment. But maybe they don't need to as the clientele like the way it is. Overall it caters for the middle aged and above with a large lounge, a separate bar and separate dining area, has a wide choice of drinks including tea/coffee, and a food menu familiar to most pubs. As for the food we have had some lovely meals but on the odd occasion I think they must have been having an off day.
Prices are reasonable for the food and drink but it's an odd situation in Hessle as establishments seem to be popular then fall out of fashion and people go elsewhere. But then after a while many return and Granby has had a few of these moments over the years. From the outside it's a quaint looking building, round the back is the parking area and a place to have a drink and smoke, an outside drinking area, in the nice weather, has been available, basically in the car park. Worth a visit, if not to your taste then other establishments are...
