The Greek - Hessle — Restaurant in England

This was a bit hit and miss. I arrived a little early so sat outside while waiting for my dining companion. A young lady came out to check I was OK and I was soon set up with a nice glass of red. Great service. Once my guest arrived we went in and found a table. We selected a few more dishes than we probably needed but isn't that always the way. The dishes arrived as they were ready. In general all of the dishes were good. However I found a small piece of bone in one of the meatballs which immediately stuck between my teeth. Toothpick needed. Plus the calamari could have been hotter and a bit crisper. At the end of the meal my guest ordered a coffee with cream. They didn't have any cream. I suggested they went over the road to the shop and bought some but apparently not allowed to happen. And then what really spoiled it for me. I ordered a Metaxa 7* brandy. A really good brandy. And it came in a whisky glass. We don't have any brandy glasses I was told. I know it's pedantic but sometimes things just have to be right. I've given this place 4 stars. 3.5 stars would be...

Yesterday 6th /1st /19 l rang and ask if they could accommodate a table for around 12/14 on 7/1/19 maybe more, the girl on the phone said no problem, as it was my son's birthday meal and family and friend all work shifts, this was the only night we could all get together. I said l would ring to confirm the actual number and book on the 7th l was told this was fine. Tonight l rang at 17.00 and was told they were closing early, if we could make it for 18.30 they could accommodate us l explained l had rang the the previous night, and was told this would be fine, the girl on the phone did try but was told they were closing early. I have heard mixed messages but like to see for ourselves , but if you can't get the bookings right, give customers mixed messages, l think they need to up skills in customer service, l am not blaming the girl on the phone but communication goes a long way with staff. Now l have to ring round and find a resturant that is open and can accommodate us....

Booked online, which turned out to be a good move! It was full! Tuesday night, which we took as a good sign. Annnd it was, really nice warm welcome and placed in the snug room to the rear. Good choice of authentic Greek food. We had a couple of cold and warm starters. The vine leaves around rice were delicious. We had mixed gyros each for our mains. HIGHLY recommend, so tasty, and the plate, all though it looked small, was packed full of delicious tomatoes, meat, onions, and very tasty fries. For afters, we had two puds, which we shared. One was orange and syrup cake, and the other was a flakie pastry with custard filling with icing sugar (?) on top. The Mythos larger was cold and went down well. Will I go again? YES! Book, enjoy!!
