Please do not visit this cafe with children! I visited with my 9 week old son and my parents. We ordered a coffee and took a seat as I breastfed my child, as he was unfortunately quite distressed and crying. After only 10 or so minutes, the manager, Valerie, asked us to leave, citing she needed the table- however, there were plenty of empty tables, and she did not ask anybody else to leave- we therefore believe she did so either because she was unhappy with me breastfeeding, or was annoyed by my child. Having returned later to take her name and complain (we did not at the time, we were so shocked!), she refused to take accountability, claiming she’d ask us to move because of the pram being in the way (it was not) and claiming she’d asked politely (she had not). She did offer a free lunch as an apology, but I feel she has entirely missed the point. It is illegal to ask a breastfeeding parent to leave and I strongly felt I was discriminated against, which wasn’t necessary, especially when already distressed trying to soothe my son. I can see other reviews citing a staff member being rude, especially to children, so there is clearly a pattern. My stepfather also said when he ordered the coffee that he felt she was rude and seemed annoyed that he had not ordered more. Shocking and disappointing to see such an attitude in this day and age, especially from the...
Read moreMe and my 6 year old son were visiting Cowes for the day for a special day out together. We needed a place for lunch and this looked as good as any. I sent my son in first as he was busting for a wee while I secured our bikes. He came out a few seconds later having being told he couldn't use the toilet. I appreciate, and was told, that these toilets are for customers only and that it get used a lot when it shouldn't but when a child comes in holding himself as he's desperate for a wee have a heart. It's not like its the height of summer. The cafe only had a hand full of people in it, the town pretty empty. We did stay for lunch as was always the plan, and the food was good, the brownie was very particularly yummy but I kind of wish we hadn't bothered based on the initial welcome...
Read moreThe place is well located, tidy little coffee shop with lovely outside area. Good choice of cakes and the fruit scones are lovely. The tea bags are quite strong tasting, quite irony and bitter. I would prefere to put my own jam and cream on my scone but they do provide plenty. The main thing that let this place down is the woman who served us. She ignore us twice when we asked about the cakes and then when she finally noticed us she was condescending and rude. The two young girls seemed very pleasant. After she left a gentleman arrived who had excellent customer service, very chatty and polite to the new customers. There wasn't anything wrong with the cakes, but all in all I wouldn't bother again as there are plenty of other...
