Just ordered from Miss Millies for the first time and in all honesty probably the last time as well.
I first came across this place several months ago on the TooGoodToGo app. I placed an order for a couple of bags and then immediately regretted it after seeing the reviews on Google so cancelled the order. I think it was rated around 2/5 on Google at the time...
Anyway months have since passed and I've been driving past with curiosity whilst having craving for fried chicken since its pretty scarce around Cornwall so tonight I finally took the plunge hoping it would be better than the reviews seem to suggest. It was approx 9.30pm when ordering so my theory was the shop would be quiet meaning everything would be made fresh to order and would be nice and hot... my theory was indeed incorrect.
So we ordered 2x mini garlic wraps, a chunky fillet burger meal, popcorn chicken, loaded fries and a strawberry milkshake.
To start with the mini garlic wraps were okay. Nothing terrible but nothing to get excited over. Nice garlic flavour, decent quality chicken however was luke warm, slightly dry and bland but a good white meaty grain. At £2 a pop they were alright but I'd probably rather drive 2 mins up the road to Maccies and get a wrap of the day for the same money that is twice the size and more flavoursome.
The chunky filet burger was misleading on the order screen picture, without reading the description it looks like a literal "chunky" filet however it is a standard filet with a flat round hashbrown on top which blends in and makes it look like a big piece of chicken. The burger came out fresh and piping hot. Again the chicken flesh was a decent quality but again it was bland and lacking of any seasoning or flavour. The hashbrown was a limp flaccid soggy tasteless abomination and served absolutely zero purpose on the burger. The burger was thrown together and had sauce all over the exterior of the bun leaving my hands very sticky.
The popcorn chicken was absolutely terrible the worst ive ever had. Cheap nasty mingin texture frozen rubbish. Would be better off grabbing a bag from Iceland and putting in the air fryer. Absolutel mingin. Even Kerry Katona would make better Iceland popcorn chicken at home whilst she's sniffed out of her head taking pictures of her tuna box for her OnlySketz.
The fries with my burger meal were fresh out of the fryer and were actually quite tasty and enjoyable. Sadly they were the highlight of the meal and the only decent part of the whole order.
The loaded fries however were tepid, soggy and limp and were utter garbage.
The strawberry milkshake was very thin with a horrible overly sweet artificial flavouring.
The can of Pepsi was nice and cold and refreshing and its good they have different flavours like cherry aswell as the regular stuff.
Overall £25 was spent on some very below average and mediocre fast food. The only enjoyable aspect was the fresh fries and the can of Pepsi everything else was pretty gross and underwhelming.
I genuinely believe the 3/5 overall Google rating is a pretty accurate representation. For me personally it's a 2/5 and I can't see myself returning. One of the worst chicken shops ive ever ordered from and also one of the most expensive.
I actually think KFC and McDonald's are slightly better and that's saying something.
There's so many much better food options around Newquay within that price range. Don't waste your time...
Read moreWe tried to eat here multiple times but the first 3 times they had run out of chicken or the staff were moving so slow there was no sign of the queue moving along any time soon. The 4th time we were actually able to make an order. The menu is a bit weird, we just wanted to try a little bit of each type of chicken, but you can’t just order chicken on the bone. So we ordered a meal that had some chicken on the bone, a box of 5 fillets, but they had sold out of wings so we couldn’t try those. Despite lots of grumpy teenage staff available behind the tills and in the kitchen the order took almost half an hour to make. When my order was finally ready one of the grumpy teenagers dumped the bag on the counter, mumbled my number and then walked off without checking anyone had actually heard him. I had a feeling my order was going to be wrong and so I opened the bag to check, and sure enough my order was wrong but to my advantage. They had actually packed an extra box of the chicken fillets along with the 5 I had ordered, except these were a box of 10. I tried to flag down a member of staff but despite one of them actually making eye contact with me, nobody came over to help me. Their loss… usually something like this would be a win, having extra free food, but when we got home and started trying the food we quickly realised that the fillets (5 we paid for, 10 for free) had likely been sat in the warmer for several hours before making its way to a takeaway box. It was the driest, most tasteless chicken I’ve ever tried in my life. The chicken on the bone was actually impressive, I’m not sure how they managed to make the skin so greasy and the meat so dry.
My guess is what has happened is these guys did not do their research. They maybe didn’t know that there used to be a KFC in Newquay, and that a new fried chicken place in Newquay would be wildly popular. They don’t have enough staff or ingredients, and so they are stock piling cooked chicken in the warmer all day and running the place with teenagers who don’t care about the job.
That’ll be the first and last time we go to a Millie’s. I would recommend making the extra journey to St Austell or Camborne if you have a hankering for...
Read moreI'll give you the most honest review I can. I went in to order some chicken on the bone for the first time since they opened and there was only two other family's waiting for there food so thought it wouldn't be a long wait. Ordered on the self serve which didn't print a receipt and started to wait, after about 10 min I went up just to make sure they didn't miss me as At this point it had got alot busier. I was told chicken on the bone is gonna take another 10 min wait. I waited about half an hour plus in total which is poor for a fast food place. The girls working there had no customer service skills and seemed like they didn't wanna be there, no atmosphere, no sorry about the wait but I get it's now busy on a Saturday. I finally got the order and my thoughts were long wait but let's see if the foods worth it. Got home to my family to find no chips in the bag. I drove back but when I raised this with one of the girls she rolled her eyes and said you just want chips.. her attitude stinks! (If you don't wanna work somewhere don't!!) Zero customer service. The manger came back from a break and he sorted me out some extras his name was Reece I believe. That's the only reason this place didn't get 1 star. My advice either train the staff or sack em and get a new team that understand the service industry. The food was ok but that is a first and last visit from me I'm afraid. Shame as this town has been crying out for a good and reasonable priced chicken shop. They got...
