Completely taken aback by this absolutely massive, hidden tavern. You'd blink and miss it coming through Newquay but trust me don't miss it. Whilst it's very much got a locals pub feel about it, the service was incredibly friendly and they were more then happy to answer our 1000 questions. We ordered 2 mixed grills at an okay price. The value is definitely in the portion size. Accompanied by MUST EAT!!! onion rings. The chicken burger comes in the same batter as the onion rings. It was so big at first we cut it open thinking it was fish. Don't worry it wasn't. And the crispy juicy chicken surrounded by the crunchy light batter was fantastic. The only gripe, and it's only a little one, is the peppercorn sauce was a waisted order. Thin and very bland. Only thing that stopped this being a five star review. But please please please, go and try the travel inn. You won't regret it. 2 mixed grills, 1 chicken burger, side of garlic bread and 3...
Read moreWe arrived to half of the place being taken up by a wedding party and the other half were pretty much all locals. The staff were friendly and polite. We waited almost 40 minutes for our food at which point the table of locals next to us in the 'quiet' corner had already sunk a few beers each. Their noise levels were beginning to get unbearable. Food came out and everything looked spot on, however, all of the meat on both mixed grills were overcooked, pork chops was almost as thin as bacon and as dry as a cracker. The 'rare' steaks were medium almost well done, the sausage and Gammon were okay but again the lamb chops looked like they had shrivvled up, real tough to eat. The rest was great but in all honesty we were glad to leave. It's a shame the locals here didn't make you feel welcome in their quite clearly local. However can't fault the bar staff they were great and mainly the reason for...
Read moreIt's a bit back from the main road. We managed to get one of the 5 or 6 parking spaces across from the post office in the village square. The pub is another 300 yards or so around the corner. There seems to be another pub across the road and an ice cream parlor that didn't show up in Google maps for some reason. We arrived on a rainy June day where the pub seemed to be mainly frequented by rosey cheeked locals enjoying an afternoon session. At 5pm the tables inside were being reserved for food and a steady flow of people started to arrive for food. I'd say indoors they could sit 30-40 for food. They have many tables outside for when the sun arrives. Not sure if they serve food for these. We were based at a campsite over a mile away. A bit far too walk and stagger back. A shuttle bus for the campsite might make this little pub very very busy. Or maybe they just don't...
