Monstera Canteen — Restaurant in England

A little gem in Luton centre which I can highly recommend.

The place is small but accommodating, and although it seems crowded, we didn't feel it. It only adds to its charm.

The food portions are generous, we had the sweet potato with rice and plantains special and weren't able to finish it ☺️

The said sweet potato dish was good, although slightly on the salty side for us and the potatoes themselves were a bit less tasty than the ones we usually cook at home. We found the side coleslaw didn't really go with the rest of the dish (might just be us).

The burger though - I loved it! I haven't had a meat burger in forever but this one tasted so much like the real thing - only better 😊 (from a vegetarian perspective, that is). The cheese, the marinated seitan, the bun - complemented each other so well. Highly recommended even if you're not a burger person (I'm not).

Monstera Canteen has a cozy atmosphere and welcoming employees. There were two gentlemen behind the counter and pop punk blasting over the PA. I thought it was cool given my background with the genre, made me nostalgic.

Right across the street you can see a record shop that added a bit of authenticity to the quasi hipster vibe.

I ordered the Buffalo Burger box that came with mac n cheese, panko beadcrumbs, 2 hash browns, a wheat gluten and chickpea patty, lettuce, tomato, and sesame topped bun with mayo. It also came with a side of fries.

The sandwich was satisfying and the fries were made my favorite way. The patty was my least favorite part, because it was a little chewy. I would still recommend checking them out because it was a great portion, flavors, service, and plenty to choose...

I had heard great things about this place so was excited to go. Thursday 6pm we recieved a warm and friendly welcome, and the place filled up while we ate. I had heard particularly good things about the buffalo cauliflower and it did not disappoint! Kinda think I might never know anything else on their menu cos I'm always going to want that! Got some chips too, which were yum. Friend said curry special was fab, and despite them both being huge portions, we couldn't help but finish as they tasted too good! My meal with chips, rocky road and a drink came to a great value £11.50, and I picked up some jackfruit and banana blossom while I was there....
