I absolutely love and adore coffee, so I am very fussy regarding the quality of coffee that I drink. It seems to be a sad fact is that most places serve mediocre quality coffee – especially the big brand name shops. So, when I stumbled across the Muffin Break shop in the Dolphin Centre Poole opposite Boots, I was very sceptical about the quality of coffee that might be served. What came next was a very pleasant surprise. The person who made my coffee was called Jui - a young lady who is a skilled barista. I have never tasted such a fantastic cup of coffee – really! What a wonderful surprise it was to find that this young lady who is originally from Bangladesh had in my opinion completely blown away all the local competition!!
Of course the only way you will find out if I am telling the truth or not is for you to visit the Muffin Break and find out!
Well done to Jui –
The other day I visited Costa in Dorchester. I asked if the cleaner was having a day off as there were quite a few tables that were dirty. When my coffee was duly presented I noticed that the coffee was way below the temperature that it should have been. The assistant blurted out that I should have asked for an extra hot coffee when ordering! - Bless her ignorance! I also had to wait in a queue to in order to ask for a key to the locked loos!
Last week I asked a lady at the Tescos café Poole for a double shot (they charge you for it ) this was because the coffee is acceptable but way to weak. I asked her if she could get the temperature of the coffee above the mild setting – her answer was that all she could do was heat up the cup!!
I have visited all the coffee shops in the Poole area and I am of the opinion that most do serve up mediocre quality coffee. Especially Costa - Nero and Starbucks compared to the Muffin Break Shop.
I think it would be a great idea for all the managers of these shops to arrange for a meeting to see Jui. She could possibly show them where they are going wrong. They then may realise just how much they are letting the public down.
So remember - I have been in all of your shops and you really can’t hold a candle to the Muffin Shop for quality coffee. Regards, Johnny Angel
P S I have revisited the Muffin Shop many times and the standard has been consistently high – In fact 100% Excellent. So remember to chant Jui Jui Jui when you call at the shop and of course say hi to her boss Suzie – who is...
Read moreIn short: We paid a lot for food I would never eat again by choice.
For anyone interested:
We bought chocolate and caramel milkshakes for £4.75 each that only held about 0.4l but had 464 kcal, quite a lot. It tasted like instant hot chocolate powder from the supermarkets that was stirred into a bit milk and was nothing special whatsoever.
We decided (because it looked delicious) to try a £4.10 piece of mud cake (516 kcal for one piece!!!) that was totally dry, tasted nothing like chocolate or anything else, with cream on top that was tasting like pure milk and was way too sweet and they also removed the strawberry on top before giving it to us ( for takeaway in a bag). They packed the cake in a stained paper back, so that I had a sticky fluid all over my hands after trying to open it which was hard to wash off too.
Not really any criteria but still something annoying: the forks weren’t included and since we wanted to eat the cake on the way we had to get them somewhere else.
The aesthetics were good, if anyone just wanted to post the food and not eat it, you’d be delighted. The customer service was also nothing special, even though the people working took long to prepare the milkshakes and almost forgot my cake, so I had to remind them, while the queue behind us lengthened.
Overall a very disappointing experience. We will never come back here to eat crumbly, flavorless cake with so much calories for nothing and pay exorbitant...

The staff were attentive throughout my visit, ensuring that I had everything I needed and even offering suggestions on their specialty muffins.
Moreover, the quality of the muffins was outstanding. Freshly baked and bursting with flavour. It's evident that the staff take pride in their craft, as every muffin was made with care and attention to detail.
