Each month a number of us from work go out for a meal and drinks round Harrogate. This time we thought we'd try Mykonos, a Greek bar and grill. We had been a bit disorganised on this occasion and only booked a table minutes before arriving. Yet the staff made efforts to accommodate us and soon enough eleven us were sitting round the table looking at menus.
The person serving us (who I think might have been the man in charge) was very friendly and explained the various specials that were also on offer. One of these was Pork Stifado, which is what I opted for, plus a side order of vegetables. Now, one thing I must say is that the portions are extremely generous. Looking round the table I could see very large cuts of chicken and stonkingly thick steaks. My dish was no exception, with chunks of pork piled high in a rich sauce. The sauce was amazing! The whole meal was, in fact.
A main course on its own would have been plenty but we were out for the duration and went on to order puddings. There were some traditional Greek dishes on the menu but I ended up deciding on the chocolate fudge cake, served warm with ice cream. I've had such a concoction several times in the past - indeed, it is one of my favourite desserts. This one, however, had an extra richness, like it was made with extra dark chocolate. It was delicious.
When the bill arrived I expected it to be really expensive, given that some people were drinking wine quite liberally. However, it equated to just £30 a head including reasonable tip. Not only that but our waiter also brought us shots of Sambuca, completely on the house, a practice I've only previously witnessed abroad.
Overall this was an extremely satisfying experience and one I hope to repeat before too long. Well...
Read moreWe went there yesterday and sat outside. Staff was nice and they have put effort to make the terrace look good. However, food was not really tasty. It felt like prepared earlier and warmed up. I come from Germany and have been many times to Greece, so I am used to have the whole fish served, including the head as a sign of freshness and then you remove the bones, head and everything yourself or you ask them to do it in front of you. I thought this was everywhere. Maybe it’s just a cultural difference. However, fish tased like it has been bought from the frozen section of Asda. Definitely, not fresh. Then there’s the thing with double booking of a table, where they tell you, that you have two hours as next guests are coming after that. On top of that we had to wait long for our food, so we didn’t have much time to eat in the end, and there were things from our order forgotten...
Read moreWe chose this place based on reviews as we're on holiday and didn't really know the area. It was very busy .... always a good sign .... but we had booked so no worries. We sat inside but asked to be moved outside ASAP which they did as soon as a table was free. We ordered the set menu for 2 but with moving tables it got lost... as soon as this was discovered everything was done to right the situation ... we may have waited slightly longer for our dinner but it was all delicious and the extra effort made to make up for the delay was amazing .... so thank you we had a great evening and the fact you care so much about your customers experience made it all the more special !! A fabulous place to spend the evening and...
