I think with all the rave reviews about this place my expectations may have been a little too high. I have been to many Turkish restaurants in the UK and Europe and I would classify this one in the bottom 20%. There were some very good things about my experience at Kona Meze, for instance, I thought the lamb liver appetizer was superb, great flavors and a very well rounded dish. For my main, the roasted obergine salad base for the lamb was amazing, as were the French fries. There were some things that were very under par, not the least of which was the service. I was greeted very well and respectfully and my food came out in good time and was hot, however I was served by at least 4 people, all of whom were rushed off of their feet, and just going through the motions of being a professional server, in a not so inexpensive restaurant. A few times they would ask ,’is everything Ok?’ I said, it’s OK, hoping for a response but never was asked why I thought it just OK. This is and a couple of other observations, is Vwhy I thought the meal over all was just OK. For my stater, the lamb, they offered me what looked like bread bits, that were obviously days old and warmed over in the micro. For goodness sake, good bread or pita, is THE staple of any good Turkish, Italian or Greek restaurant. Huge minus on my part. Then the there was the lamb! The menu called it charbroiled marines lamb fillets. What it was, was leftover lamb, cut into smallish squares unseasoned and cooked until any moisture was evaporated. How they could charge. Nearly 21 pounds for that! I have no idea. Needless to say, I will not be frequenting Kona Meze again, nor would I recommend anyone who has had really good authentic Turkish cuisine, which when cooked correctly, is some of the best anywhere in the world, until they get their act. I feel this could be a really good restaurant, but like so many that are always crowded, standards diminish. What happens next, the crowds don’t frequent as much as they used to, they stop recommending to friends or family and that can cause big financial problems for the owner/s. I’m writing this because I know this has the potential of being a great restaurant, with just a little more attention to very important details. I’m sorry if I offended and these are just my...
Read moreCame here for mine and my boyfriends 1 year anniversary meal, and I really enjoyed it!
My sucuk starter was divine and hot, my main was nice, and I was able to swap my potatoes for rice with no issues, but there wasn't as much meat as I was anticipating, especially for £22.50.
My partner enjoyed his starter, but there were two very fatty bits which he couldn't swallow and left on the plate. He didn't enjoy his main as much as I did mine, but that was just his decision, not necessarily wrong with his food.
We were both very, very let down by the dessert. Whenever we go out to eat at a Mediterranean/Turkish/Greek restaurant, we always share a baklava for dessert, which is served as a hearty slice, however, in Konak, we received 3 small cubes of baklava. Not impressed at all considering it never said that on the menu, and it was £7.50 I think. Massive let down in my opinion.
My partner said he won't be coming back for a while, and if we do return, we definitely won't be sharing a dessert.
The blonde waitress was really lovely, and the other staff were nice too, and one of the waiters had good knowledge on the "special" of the day. It was a little busy when we went, but we weren't sat near anyone which was nice. It is a nice atmosphere in there and the staff are nice and it is a cute lil place, but a touch pricey for some...
Read moreNot a great experience here. Arrived and were told they could fit us in if we ordered quickly and left within an hour. Suited us as we were off to the theatre and so we happily took our seats and ordered straight away. After 45 mintues of waiting for our starters and watching 5 couples who arrived after us have their startes and, some of them, their mains, we decided to ask a waitress about our food. She disappeared for a while and then a manager approached us. He appologised and said our food was ready and had 'simply' been missed and left in the kitchen. He could bring it all out to us at once but by now we had 15 minutes to eat before we had to leave for our show. 15 minutes for startes and mains and to pay, now I'm a big lad who enjoys his food but even for me that's a push. We declined and said we didn't have time to eat. He seemed to ignore this and kept insisting that he'd bring the food out. We got up and started to leave. We apologised, although I'm not sure why. They apologised (albeit incincerely) but offered nothing in terms of compensation for our wasted time waiting for a meal that we now didn't have time to eat or even get somewhere else. Simply appalling service for what should have been a mutually swift experience. We were left hungry for the evening, but the show at the theatre was...
