We were out headding for KFC but the queue was just too long, we drove into Winner Street and were considering a Kebab when the wife started reading the menu at "Indian Ocean" the aroma coming out the door was just amazing. We were greeted like friends even though this was infact our first visit. The manager Mr Sandy also paid the table a visit to say hello. The waiter was just so nice, I ordered the popadoms and before 3 minutes they were on the table ready for us to munch whilst pondering the menu. I had the chicken Bhuna and the wife had Korma, we chose keema rice and pilau rice with onion bhajis and perswari nans on the side and the whole meal was just so amazing. Waited about 15 minutes but it was just beautiful food. I don't know what else I can say about the meal, a relaxed atphmosphere, just really nice. Winner Street is a little off the beaten track for most visitors to Torbay but pop the postcode in the Tom-Tom as its well worth a visit. Indian Ocean, 77 Winner Street, Paignton TQ3 3BW. Read moreNot good at all. Half hour wait and it didn't seem busy at all. Took 5 minutes for them to add the bill up and after that wait the food was miserable. Surprised by all the good reviews, my only guess is, the people are locals who have never tasted authentic Indian or Nepalese food from London, Birmingham or Bradford etc..the cooking skills were quite unrefined, basic flavour and quite bland. Kind of like a bottle of passata with some chillies thrown in. If you know and like real Indian food I would look elsewhere...it's not that cheap either, very nice people though, Your response is a little misleading as I was staying at a camp site, not far away which I also reviewed. Hence you didn't see me eat anything as this was a take away order. What's even stranger, I visited your establishment 8 years ago and you replied yesterday, impressive memory...
Read moreWell what can I say...this small restaurant is a hidden gem !!! We had the lamb momo and chicken chatpot for starters...which were absolutely fantastic. And not forgetting the poppadoms with the best sides chutney and mint sauce. Then we come to our main dishes.. oh my days...number 33 the Nepalese goat curry was something I have never tried before...it just melted. We have never had a curry that tasted this good!! The nepalese chicken was amazing. Mushroom bhaji was off the chart..the flavour was exceptional Potato and spinach bhaji was just lovely. Family run business...mum and daughter front of house and so lovely and polite. Their husband/dad cooks the currys and he is an absolute magician of nepalese cooking. It's just a shame that we are only visiting the area for the week. But are re booking before we go home. Thank you for a...
