A Classic Seaside Stay at Marine Hotel Paignton My recent stay at a Marine hotel in Paignton offered a delightful, traditional seaside experience. The location is undeniably fantastic, just a stone's throw from the seafront, making it perfect for leisurely strolls and enjoying the coastal atmosphere. The added bonus of free parking is a huge plus, especially in a popular area like Paignton. The room was a good size, providing ample space to relax, and the bathroom, while featuring a slightly small shower, was clean and functional. The decor throughout the hotel is certainly in keeping with the building's age, offering a charming, if somewhat dated, aesthetic. If you're looking for ultra-modern design, this might not be your cup of tea, but it certainly adds to the hotel's character. However, the real highlight of my stay was the dining experience ( dinner bed and breakfast option). The three-course evening meal was absolutely substantial and excellent value for money. The menu offered enough variety of options, ensuring there was something to please everyone and price wise can not be beaten. Coffee was served after dinner in the lounge/bar which was a nice touch..The quality of the food was impressive, and I left feeling thoroughly satisfied. Top of the list making our stay an enjoyable experience was the staff. They were friendly and welcoming. Very attentive and happy to accommodate. Well done !! The hotel also provided entertainment every evening, which created a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. It's a great option for those looking for a bit of evening amusement without having to venture too far. This was more geared to to the older generation which understandably was expected due to the larger portion of guests in that age bracket. so don't expect loud discos or kids entertainment. If you after a bit of bingo and live music from a solo artist you won't be disappointed. Pros: * Excellent seafront location. * Free parking but limited if fully booked. * Substantial and delicious 3-course meals, great value. * Good sized rooms. Plenty of storage * Evening entertainment. More geared to older generation but varied * Did I say amazing staff !! Cons: * Small shower. ( In our room) * Decor is dated, may not appeal to all. Those wanting an ultra modern hotel may be disappointed but adds to character. * Overall clean but due to dated furniture and fittings are starting to look their age. Overall: If you're looking for a classic seaside hotel with a fantastic location, excellent value meals, and evening entertainment, this hotel in Paignton is a great choice and fantastic 10/10 value. While the decor and shower might not be to everyone's taste, the overall experience was very positive, and I would happily return. Given a 5 star due to value, location and staff. Not going to mark down for decor as felt that was too harsh. As not expecting 5 star property as not 5 star prices !!

2024/12 The Marine Hotel, often appreciated for its classic charm, is a beautifully preserved example of traditional hotel architecture. Situated in a scenic location, typically near the coast, it offers a unique blend of old-world elegance and modern comfort. Guests are often drawn to its vintage décor, spacious rooms, and historical features that reflect its long-standing presence in the area. The hotel’s exterior, with its grand façade and timeless design, evokes a sense of nostalgia, while the interiors are often designed to maintain the classic aesthetic, with vintage furniture and décor adding to the overall atmosphere. The Marine Hotel is also praised for its cozy and welcoming atmosphere, with friendly staff contributing to a pleasant stay. Many guests enjoy the sense of tranquility that comes with staying in an older hotel, offering a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of more modern accommodations. While the hotel’s age adds character, it can sometimes mean that certain amenities are not as contemporary as in newer establishments. However, for those who appreciate history and charm, this only adds to its appeal. The location, often offering beautiful views, and the warm, nostalgic ambiance make the Marine Hotel a popular choice for those looking for a more relaxed, heritage-filled experience.

The Marine Hotel is situated on the sea front offering some good views of the pier and marina. Although they had free parking at hotel it was small, tricky and most times full. Some spaces at side of hotel. Otherwise street parking which is pay 8am to 6am. The room was good but only kettle, no fridge which need in heatwave as sun on room all day. We had free breakfast from a set menu between 8am and 9.30am. Dinner was around 6.30pm. Hotel had bar, tea room and entertainment area with life acts most nights 9pm to 10.30pm. Staff friendly hotel. There's loads to do locally, many shops, arcades, restaurants, paignton train and bus station for easy trips to Torquay and Brixham. The pier and marina. Best use bus at busy holidays as parking impossible.

I really wanted to give this hotel 4 or 5 stars based on its many good points. I read previous reviews which were so enthusiastic about the place so I was excited to come. |So the good points - excellent location right on the sea front (I totally agree with someone else on here who was appalled at the monstrosity of a building - Vue Cinema, which blights the sea view from the side rooms and side of the Sun Lounge. But that's not the hotel's fault. Staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. |Food - we only had breakfast but that was a full table service and was faultless. Entertainment - on every night and even if not to everyone's tastes, it's always better to sit and have a sing song rather than sitting in a quiet bar. |Bar and Sun Lounge - relaxing and comfortable. |Dog friendly - deserves extra points, staff made a fuss of our dog at all times and we always appreciate finding a hotel that welcomes our fur baby. |Car parking - free on-site, although a very sharp turn at the bottom which is tricky to manoeuvre if you have a large car and there's a car in the end space (dread to think how many have clipped the bottom wall). |So what let's it down? Rooms and especially bathrooms I'm afraid. Perfectly clean but desperately in need of some money being spent on them. The 'shower' had virtually no pressure (we heard someone else moaning about this), plus we were totally unable to balance the temperature. It was either scaldingly hot or freezing cold. Using the bath was perfectly ok though, just meant I had to wash my hair leaning over the bath, with a cup, something I haven't done since I was about 10! Even though clean, it looked extremely dated and old. The bed mattress felt very old and springy. We didn't sleep well. Also, right outside our window was some sort of service fan which, we think, kicked in at mealtimes. Fortunately we had the window closed but had we been here when in hot weather, we would have had the noise of that to put up with. On Tuesday our door handle was really loose, we reported it that night and again weds morning, when it finally came off in my hand. On Weds evening someone came to do a 'temporary fix'. By Thurs it was hanging off again. Our room wasn't even serviced on Thursday (even though we left the 'please service' room sign on when we left for breakfast at 9). Don't think anyone came near at all on the Thursday, as the pile of dirty towels were still left on a table nearby from the day before. We checked out Friday, handle still hanging off. |The staff seem overworked and I admire their ability to be so cheerful when they seem to be running around here, there and everywhere. Maybe other rooms are marvellous and we were just unlucky. I wouldn't put anyone off staying here, far from it, but in our experience we would say this is a good 3 star and not the 4 star as advertised. But we wish the...

GOOD POINTS 1ST...So we stayed in room 320, for 4 nights, the room itself was large, decent shower, twin beds pushed together which was pretty huge tbh, room serviced every day and towels changed daily if you required...Bad points...room was very dated( but clean) could do with a lick of paint,no usb ports which is a basic must,...make up table with mirror, mirror was to low, ( or stall to high),the room is above the dinning room and the side entrance so by 7.45 ish the noise was bad and the door slamming was pretty horrendous. HOTEL ITS SELF, GOOD POINTS...staff where great, especially KELSEY ( AKA MILLIE) and jack ,cleaning staff, receptionists all work very hard, bar is the cheapest throughout the seafront,( and we tryed alot) some of the entertainment was also good n we made friends and had a laugh on a rainy night ..didn't get to try the brekkie as thought I had booked it in with the price, but unfortunately not.( my fault for not double checking my booking,) brekki was £10.00 extra...hotel is so central for everything easy walking distance had everything u need ,...Bad points to hotel, brekkie £10. Wetherspoons just 4 min walk same brekkie for £5.95 ...HOTEL just needs a face lift and paint job, looks, and is very tired inside and out which is a massive shame as staff all work hard, very noisy late at night from passers by,but thb you would get that with any hotel where everything is on your doorstep...plenty of bars and places to eat, spinning wheel pub opposit seafront was the nxt cheapest, and food was good, tbh even in the harbour the drinks where not that expensive, food was dearer..All in all I would reccommend the hotel and would go back as you only really sleep in the room and like I said clean...
