New Ming Garden — Restaurant in England

Without a doubt the worst restaurant I have ever been to. Horrible staff, we were treated terribly.

Me and my girlfriend attended on Valentines Day, the porter looked at us like we were vagrants as soon as we walked in (despite wearing me a smart shirt and trousers and my girlfriend wearing an evening dress) but showed us to a table anyway. We are a bit what you would call "alternative" looking but we were appropriately dressed for the occasion.

For some reason they refused to serve us anything off the regular menu unless we sat in the corner of the restaurant at a pokey little table! Humiliating. So we moved into the corner and ordered what we wanted. As we were eating, a couple came in and sat exactly where we had been moved from. The guy was a well built man who looked like someone you wouldn't want to mess about. He asked to order off the regular menu like we did and the waiter / porter happily obliged! He wasn't asked to move and wasn't even asked to consider their special Valentines Day menu. Again, we felt humiliated.

When it came time to pay for the food (which to be fair was perfectly fine) they charged us £15 over the menu price! No, it wasn't a mistake on our part. I guess they were charging more because it was Valantines Day, but they never mentioned that the prices were inflated beforehand. Anyway, only having cash on me, I had to go to a nearby cash machine to get the rest of the money - my girlfriend stayed behind with the porter / waiter as it was clear he thought we were going to try and do a runner!

We were polite the whole evening, we were well dressed, we're in our late 20's, didn't look like "chavs" or anything, and we were treated unbelievably poorly. How this restaurant is still in business I have no idea.

If I wanted to pay to be humiliated there are "specialists" who do that kind of thing, I don't expect it when going out for dinner.

I visited the restaurant this past weekend as part of a large group. It's my second visit to the restaurant. There was another large party at the restaurant so they were quite busy. As part of this, our waitress was a bit stressed, however I really wanted to give her all the credit in the world. There was a lot of us, and as always in these situations people forget their orders, or there's some confusion. Even though she was stressed, she stuck with it with great humour and we all felt she did a great job. There was some mix-up with the orders, partly as I said from people not remembering what they ordered, which I think got her some flak from the owners but I really want to emphasise that we as customers really had a great time. Her natural humour and the way she handled such a large group was brilliant and having worked with young people I can only say I was beyond impressed with her, something everyone agreed on. She made it a most memorable experience and if anything she deserves a heap of praise for how she handled it. Please pass this on to her as she made our weekend on the island...

The waitress (wearing the black face mask) was very rude on arrival. We told her we had a reservation and she simply barked “it’s cash only ok?”.

When taking our order, one item was out of stock so we were choosing another dish and she got impatient and said she would come back. She did not offer us drinks after we placed our food order.

When setting the table, she knocked over the flower pot and just threw it on to her tray in an aggressive way.

On to the food, the Ho fun was burnt. We had asked for no soy sauce and she said that’s why it was burnt, “onions are like that”. My wife and I come from a family of Chinese chefs so we know that is not how it is. She did refund this dish.

The toilet had no toilet paper in the gents or the ladies.

When we came to paying the bill, I asked for the receipt and she threw it at me. No words or pleasantries were exchanged by either her or the other young male waiter.

The only redeeming features were the rice portion size was good and the place was generally clean. Worst service ever. Food not much better. An...
