Oblique — Restaurant in England

Service and food excellent throughout our visit last night, but problems with the menu. No written food menu offered, because they had some future changes to the menu coming etc etc. We were read out the options - we only had a choice of approx 3 starters and 3 mains, and for dessert only ice cream or sorbet! I know all restaurants will occasionally say we are out of x and y etc, but to have so few items on offer no menu was even offered was a first for me. As these were read out we didn't know what came with each dish or the prices of each dish, but to be fair I had an idea from looking at the menu before I arrived. Food arrived and all perfect and as mentioned, very attentive and almost apologetic service. When the bill arrived, there was no discount for the very limited menu and 10% had been added. In a busy restaurant with a full menu I'd accept the 10%, but when you hadn't informed us before of the very restricted menu it is wrong to add 10%. I'm sure with a full menu oblique is great, but ask first if there are only 6 items on the menu. Alas I won't be returning...

An amazing experience - this being the second time I had been to the restaurant (albeit now for brunch service), I was left equally impressed.

The Full English Breakfast is a must for any breakfast-lovers and there is a wide selection of good coffee to accompany the meal. I had also attended the dinner service and the steak was cooked to how I had asked and was particularly flavourful. I also recommend the Spanish cheesecake with Calusari Pinot Grigio, as it was delicious - props to all the chefs.

The atmosphere was comforting and enjoyable with good music accompanying it - it is a setting suitable for a night out with friends, dinner with family and especially a romantic evening; it is hard to find a restaurant nowadays that can host such an ambience.

The service was quick (owed I am sure to the hard work of the staff) and personal, which I appreciated.

And so Northamptoners, on a high street full of so many restaurants where you might feel spoiled for choice, treat yourself and your family and friends to an evening you...

We had a lovely start at Oblique with a warm welcome and allowed us to move our table so that we could be by the door as it was hot. Unfortunately there was no perroni left on tap and no IPAs served there. There was also only two steaks left to order (7:30 on a Friday evening). I was a bit disappointed that even though there is a burger on the gluten free menu, they didn’t have any gluten free buns. Two of us ordered duck and there was only two pieces of duck. There was a requested to change the potato fondant to chips which we were told couldn’t be done and had to be ordered as a side. My steak was ordered medium rare but came very rare however I did enjoy it and chose not to send it back. It was also a good size and good quality steak.

We still had a nice evening and the staff were attentive and friendly. It was a good atmosphere, just a shame a few things let it down which was mostly down to missing items and lack of availability. The cod and steak portions were reasonable but the duck was very minimal especially...
