I have frequently been here with my work colleagues and it generally is a nice place to hang out. However I felt really discriminated against by the front security last night and it's been a long time since I've felt treated like this. We had a big group of around 10 people and I was the only person of colour. As I entered I was the only one pulled aside because I was wearing 'tracksuit bottoms' and it didn't fit the "dress code". I was wearing outdoor trekking trousers which I usually wear for work. Some of my colleagues were wearing hoodies, cargo pants, women entering with leggings and I saw a guy enter with shorts to the premise no questions asked. Talking to the security guys felt useless as I could tell they were stuck in their mindset and I didn't want to waste my energy or ruin the evening for my colleagues. I was allowed to sit outside in the cold and luckily I have a great work team who got drinks and came and joined me outside - but this should never have been the case. Racial discrimination in this day and age is ridiculous but if you don't want to feel this towards you or see others be treated this way this is not the place to spend your evening. I am disappointed with the management for allowing security staff with no respect for diversity and inclusion to...
Read moreFirst the pros, it stocks some decent cans and bottles (Verdant Howl) and it's priced correctly. There's some outdoors seating on the front that on a sunny day would be a great place to sit. The staff seem friendly and helpful.
Now the not so good stuff. It's possibly because of where we live and drink but the whole craft aspect of Off The Tap has been diluted by serving anything and everything. I understand that they're trying to appeal to a huge clientele but its losing it's craft identity. Unfortunately we got the impression it was a bit rough, probably due to the guy in the tracksuit who couldn't complete a sentence without swearing every other word before launching into a torrent of swearing and saying he was going to kick someone's head in.
It's a shame because it's got the makings of a superb place, I'm just not entirely Maidenhead is ready for a hardcore...
Read moreThis place is a bit of a mixed bag. Upon ordering at the bar we were advised against ordering a specific pizza because it doesn't look very appetizing and will be removed from the menu soon. That was a bit strange, surely that's something you finalize before opening an eatery? Anyway, the pizzas we did end up ordering were really great. As a first time craft beer drinker I can only say that that part of the experience was okay. Also, the decor is fine but some bits of the place look unfinished. I think the overall concept is good, but needs some serious polish. That being said, I really enjoyed the music. The soundtrack to my high school years was playing...
