This person has refused to refund my £100 deposit for my mum's wake, despite not fulfilling any of her promises. She has had no expense and so she has lost nothing.

I paid £100 deposit for my mum's wake on Wednesday 26th October. The owner said she would work on the menu and get back to me by the end of Friday because she was busy on Thursday. She didn't make contact until late on Sunday saying she had been busy and that she would send details the next day . When she did send the menu via WhatsApp, there wasn't much detail and no indication of quality i.e. 'some bread'. I asked to discuss it but understood that she was at the hospital with her partner that day so agreed to wait until Tuesday. On Tuesday she said she would meet but she had to pick her partner up from the hospital first. I messaged to ask when she would be available but she didn't reply. At 10.20am on Wednesday when she still hadn't contacted me I made the decision to cancel. I don't think this is unreasonable, given it was a week down the line and I still didn't know what food I was having. Also I only had a week before the wake to make alternative arrangements . Wow! Very smart and stylish. Totally transformed from what I remember the grubby Old Grey Mare being like previously. It is relaxing and you don't feel intimidated coming in here and it's dog friendly too. Served by a polite, pleasant young man called Oliver who was very helpful. There is a deli incorporated into the pub and Oliver knows his cheeses. Good to be served by someone knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I had a cinnamon swirl and an almond croissant, made on the premises. Both were lovely. The deli has artfully laid out displays with cheeses and condiments, bottles and crisps, tofu, jars, tins, fish, meats and has some lovely items for sale as gifts. Handpulled cask beers were Black Sheep, Astronomer Chocolate Porter and Riggwelter. Lovely original, carved wooden detailing to the bar panels. The pub does a good pizza selection; has outdoor seating including a sheltered area, some parking to the front and very smart decor. I was impressed. This reviewer is for returning. I am giving 5 stars because of the great hospitality and kindness of the staff. Every morning at breakfast we were greeted so warmly and asked about our plans for the day, and were given other less touristy ideas for our sightseeing plans by the staff daily. It felt very homey and comfortable, like the staff really cared about your experience in York while you are visiting. The biggest thing was the fact that my very forgetful son left my iPad behind his bed at our room and we were already half way to the next destination on a train by the time he realized it. Given the unfortunate world we live in nowadays, I almost half expected to never see it again. We contacted the hotel and they had found the iPad and offered to ship the iPad back to us in the US for us. And today I received my ipad, nearly fully charged, nonetheless!!
