We decided to try out the new Olive Golden Years menu for our weekly lunch out. We were prepared for small portions, acceptable presentation, basic ingredients. How wrong we were!, Service was excellent and chatting with Mark at the end of our lunch was enlightening. It explained why the portions, presention and ingredients were so excellent, delicious and beautifully presented. Virtually everything is made in-house including the authentic Olive bread served with one of the best soups I have tasted. In fact if we had something to complain about, it would be that my husband would have preferred to have had my slice of it with his (very generous) Pate! His mains was chicken breast fillet and mine was steak. Expecting a 5oz Rump of mid quality instead I found myself cutting into what surely was a 7/8oz sirloin that felt like butter to the knife. The accompanying sauces and seasonal veg all combined to make both meals two of the best we have enjoyed. Whilst feeling extremely full we could not leave without sharing a wonderful (large) individual lemon meringue portion. We definitely could not have consumed one each! Regrettably, there was just no room for a latte or cappuccino. Next time we will have to forgo or share a starter or dessert if we are to sample the coffee. I highly recommend trying out the Golden Years menu to all our fellow pensioners (over 60). For quality and value it cannot be beaten. 10 x ⭐️. A special mention for Archie. Service from this charming young man was...
Read more100% HAPPY. I can’t express enough how much we really enjoyed having our daughters 18th birthday party at the Olive Bar and Kitchen on Belgrave Road, Darwen. This venue is absolutely superb. It has a downstairs room with a spacious layout, bar, TVs, and toilets, then upstairs there is a dancefloor with seating and a little snug room with again comfy seats next to the upstairs bar. If this wasn’t enough already, there is also an outside terrace, leading from the upstairs room with seating, some of which under cover, letting you sit and drink under the stars. The atmosphere with the layout, lighting, staff, and of course I will guests was amazing and better than I could ever wish for our daughter Ellie for her 18th birthday. She kept coming up to us all night saying thank you. Mario, who I presume is, the owner answered all of our questions leading up to the party and we only got around to going to the bar in the week leading up to the party and let me tell you. He is such a nice pleasant energetic guy. We went to see the venue in the daytime which looked great, but in the evening, it was even more spectacular. I don’t often write reviews this one just had to be done as a massive thank you to them all as they couldn’t of done anything more for us. As I started this review we are 100% happy and crucially, so is...
Read moreWent here for the unlimited Sunday lunch. Was totally ignored by the staff when we arrived, stood waiting while the staff walked past us. I had to grab someone and tell them we had a table booked.
A young girl looked at the reservations list then went off to check. Upon coming back, she walked straight past us and started serving in the bar. Again, I had to get a different staff member and explained we had a table booked, to which he replied “ I don’t think we have any tables”.
I told him that someone could at least communicate with us and offer us a drink. We sat and waited, at which time, the staff began arguing with the manger about the table situation. It was extremely uncomfortable and unprofessional.
The manager then came over and did apologise and said he’d had 2 staff members not turn in. He took us to a table. The food was quite nice, though the gammon was extremely salty. Probably wouldn’t go...
