I dined alone yesterday, but my review is actually about a visit prior to this. A group of us friends were here a couple of weeks ago. We had wanted to leave a review then but we lost our receipt.
Everything about the evening was perfect.
My friends were quite reluctant to vist the restaurant as we felt that, since it was 1 hour until closing time, we would be pressured into ordering really quickly, and then also into paying the bill quickly and leaving.
We have had experiences like this in other places before where it has been rushed and it can be a total mood kill, but we decided to risk it anyway. We have to say that the staff (our server was Nazare) were extremely accommodating. We didn't feel pressure at all to "order quickly" (we were very politely told what time the kitchen would be closing and then left to peruse the menu) and were given enough time.
The evening unfolded so smoothly, that actually we ended up ordering on time, eating slowly and leisurely, settling the bill, and leaving... all on time, without making the staff late!! Somehow the staff managed to be extremely efficient and perfectly coordinated the taking of our drinks order, bringing our drinks whilst we read the menu, and timing everything perfectly.... Had we been rushed, we wouldn't have managed it, but giving us time and space meant we were actually quicker.
One of my friends had a change of mind once he had placed his order, yet the manager (Nooran) managed to quickly amend his order as the chef had not started on it yet (she could easily have said no, and we would never have known, but she went out of her way to see if it could still be amended. These little touches are not necessarily what always 'enhance' an evening, but they DO prevent the evening becoming a disappointment. All throughout our visit, such little touches made all the difference. Otherwise we rarely leave feedback or reviews.
Our drinks were regularly checked up on, without us having to call the waitress over (once by our waitress Nazare and even once by the manager Nooran herself) and this just made the evening more efficient. We didn't have to wait around trying to get their attention and yet, nor did we feel pressured into ordering more drinks earlier than needed - the timings were just perfect.
We have often been to restaurants where the staff have been rushed off their feet and somehow manage to transfer that stress of 'being busy' on to their customers. Nazare and Nooran did seem very busy as there were quite a few tables, and though their working (and walking) pace was necessarily fast, their demeanour when talking to us was calm and extremely measured. They didn't feel the need to stress us 'customers' out just cos THEY themselves were busy. (Nooran seems to be the type of manager who would rather roll her sleeves up and help get the work done instead of just only trying to make her staff work faster)
We had not been out much (other than outdoors) since this 3rd lockdown, and any nerves or anxiety we had about social distancing were quickly put to ease. The staff were all wearing masks (and not just the cheap blue ones - these seemed tight around the mouth and nose) and the staff kept their distance at all times too (as much as they reasonably could in such a small premises). I believe this safety ethic comes from the management downwards as managers who lead by example tend to easily influence their team to follow suit. We were told the doors and windows were left open to allow for better airflow due to covid. All in all, it made us comfortable that we were as safe as could reasonably be in such an environment and confident that, even behind the scenes, staff would likely be taking covid measures (and general food hygiene) seriously.

Read moreMy recent visit to Pizza Express in Beaconsfield was nothing short of fantastic, and a huge part of that was down to the incredible manager Nazare. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and vibrant, but it was the manager's attentiveness and leadership that truly made our evening stand out. They were constantly circulating, checking in with tables, and clearly overseeing every aspect of the restaurant with a keen eye. We observed them helping out the team, engaging with customers, and even swiftly resolving a minor query for another table with impressive grace and efficiency. This level of hands-on management is so refreshing to see! Our food, as always at Pizza Express, was delicious – perfectly cooked pizzas and a delightful starter. However, it was the smooth service and positive energy, clearly fostered by the manager, that elevated the entire dining experience. They ensured everything ran like clockwork, and their genuine enthusiasm for their job and their customers was infectious. This manager is a real asset to the Beaconsfield branch of Pizza Express.
