A very good Japanese restaurant. They do some of the cooking live in-front of you, and even offer seats at the live-cooking table. Any guests sitting at said table always get the best experience (I have sat there once or twice during my many visits to this great restaurant), as the chef cooking there talks to you, makes jokes, and is generally quite nice to you (he also has some amazing skills which he will show off to you!). My parents always go for the soft crab shell sushi, which they say is very good (I can't comment as I haven't tried it yet), and I always get the tuna set, involving a few tuna maki rolls, tuna sashimi, and tuna nigiri. For a main course, I recommend the chicken katsu curry (breaded chicken in a mild potato/carrot Japanese curry sauce with sticky rice), a great dish for those who want to try curry but can't handle the heat. My parents love the udon noodles as a starter, with the black cod (again, I can't comment on this dish as I haven't tried it). Do note that the sushi and main course could come at any time, in any order - they do make sure you are aware of this, as it is clearly marked on the menu. The desserts offered are Japanese deserts, such as Japanese pancakes (with a sweet black bean filling), sweet rice balls (again with a sweet black bean filling), and various flavours of ice cream (this is Japanese ice cream, so the ice cream has a tough, pastry-like coating on it. I wouldn't say it's bad - it's just different). Overall, I really like this restaurant. It has great service (except one time when a young waiter seemed to forget that we wanted the bill), great food, and an overall great experience, especially if you're sitting on the live-food table!

Achimi is fantastic, authentic food as always and delicious. I love the sushi here, dad is a fan of the sashimi as he's not so keen on cold rice. For mains we had the Aromatic sushi roll for £13.80, Chirashi Don (comes with Miso soup) for £15.80 and Black Cod in Miso for £22.80. The takoyaki were great as usual, and previously I have very much enjoyed a Salmon Set that looks like a boat for £16.80. The teas are in large cups and the green tea in particular is nice. And I had to get the Japanese Rice Cake with red bean for £4.00. There were a couple families with young kids in at the Saturday lunchtime we went, as it's quiet it seems a good way to test their restaurant etiquette. At dinner when we have been there are no children usually. The doorways are quite narrow so I would say this is not accessible for a wheelchair user.

Very disappointed with the quality of the meal. So called Japanese food doesn’t taste Japanese at all. As an Asian myself, I have tried many udon dishes from all over the world, esp in the UK. However, this particular yaki udon steak fillet was nothing but a bland dish. Where’s the sauce? It doesn’t even have the proper seasoning/ colour of soy sauce & other sauces as you can see from the photo. The udon noodle itself is too overcooked too soft. The beef steak is super chewy and the vegetables were over boiled. A forced 10% service charge. overall a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend anyone to go there and I won’t go back there again.

What a RIP OFF, visited this restaurant for the first time. After reading the reviews it sounded really good. What a major disappointment. We went for dinner 2 adults and 3 children. The service was flat line, we ordered a mixture of dishes as we wanted to try a bit of everything. When we asked for small bowels the look on the waitress face, it was like I had asked for the impossible. The Sushi I would give 5 out of 10 the main dishes 1 out of 10. Service 0 out of 10. Whilst we were there I was observing customers coming in to collect their takeaways and the 2 common questions being asked was 1. You paying cash or card? 2. Do you need a receipt. I’ve seen this sort of behaviour before and know why it’s done. I wasn’t surprised that when I asked for the bill I was asked the same 2 questions but my response was card and yes I want a receipt. I was shocked that we were charged £6.80 for 4 mini veg spring rolls but on the receipt it showed as Duck spring rolls. When I asked the waitress she told me Duck spring rolls are the same price as the veg spring rolls. I asked her to correct it on the receipt she said she can’t and it doesn’t matter as it’s the same price. I also noticed she added the service charge without me seeing or asking me. Very underhanded behaviour and in my eyes Fudging the books and ripping customers off. I will not be returning to this restaurant and would strongly recommend that if you do visit or order food make sure you get your receipt so you know you’re being charged correctly. Really disappointed in the...

I’d given it zero star if there was an option. Not only the food was not authentic, the service was appalling. We spent just under £200 on dinner this evening (two mums with four young children) and we barely touched any of our food. We asked if there was vinegar added in the yaki udon, one lady said yes as it was the ‘special’ recipe from the house chef and when I asked again before leaving another lady said no they used 100% of tonkatsu sauce. I pointed out that we didn’t touch the udon after the first bite as it tasted almost off since it was way too sour and even though I’m not Japanese we’ve been to Japan many times and never had tonkatsu sauce in any yaki udon. The lady was adamant that they never had any complaint from their customers so I suggested perhaps it would be worthwhile going forward stating that their yaki udon contains tonkatsu sauce to avoid any confusion. Instead of being apologetic as most restaurants would, the lady went on arguing that ‘even’ their Chinese customers never complained. I thought it was a Japanese restaurant so why would I want opinions from any Chinese customers? We then realised that the owner and waiting staff were Chinese and the fact that they didn’t even ask why we didn’t eat most of the food goes to show the kind of customer service...
