Took Mumsy to lunch at Dunstable's Priory House tea rooms last Saturday. We also ordered two pots of tea from probably the widest variety of blends between London and Glasgow. Priory House has 7 pages describing the range of taste of their different teas and a page for their speciality coffees.
There are 28 varieties of tea. The coffees, include a special variety known as "Cat's Poo" because of where it comes from.
This part of the building with its arched ceiling dates from the 13th century.
Dunstable is a very historic town built around the crossroads of two Roman roads. Henry VIII had his marriage to Anne Boleyn annulled here, leading to the creation of the Church of England. Upstairs there is an interesting exhibition of the history of Dunstable from the time of the Romans.
Priory House includes a shop full of interesting and unusual gifts; many handcrafted locally. When it's sunny, you can sit outside and enjoy an Afternoon tea while admiring the Tudor garden with plants that would have been grown in those days.

Entered through the front and saw a few tables in an area where sold and displayed lots of different eye-catching things from jewelry to small sculptured pieces. It looked really cosy and thought that was it, but kept going and there was a "formal" dining ... I kept going and came to another area and serving all sorts of local, lovely treats, teas, coffees drinks and the most delicious passion fruit cake! I enjoyed this with a nice glass of Chardonnay. We enjoyed our brunch in the gardens outside. It was just the perfect backdrop facing the wonderful gardens.
Staff are ever so nice (I had called earlier in the morning to ask about parking in the area) and in person were just as pleasant when describing what was on offer.
I thoroughly recommend this tea room and it's nice to enjoy on your own or...

This time however mum found a hair in her Bedfordshire clanger, it was embedded within the pastry, when we showed the staff they said the pastry is bought in ready made so it must have been in there before, ie hasn't come from their kitchen. Obviously they apologised and replaced it. Little disappointed as we always thought all food was made from scratch there. The historical display upstairs is always worth a look and we also like the little...
