Myself, my partner and friend have gone to this pub occasionally for special occasions and when we have we usually have really good meals and service. Unfortunately when we went a couple of weeks ago, we didn't get either. So we thought that we wouldn't use the Quantock again for this purpose. So I reviewed it as not good. After hearing about this meal, Nick the owner contacted me and he said to, "just give the pub and service a second chance". He was very concerned that we had a bad experience and wanted to show us what we normally would get with this pub. So we did give him a second chance. We weren't disappointed, the service we received was exceptional, from the entrance to the end of the meal. We all had a carvery ( 2 vegetarian ) and one meat (gammon, turkey and beef, were available). The vegetables were cooked to perfection. We all loved the roast potatoes and the roasted parsnips and had loads of gravy. The cauliflower cheese and mash are to be recommended. All of us managed to eat everything on the plates. We left it a while until we had puddings again which were all presented lovely and with a very friendly and happy staff member who served it to us. They were so tempting I forgot to take pictures, we just tucked in! My friend and partner had Abbot Ale and said it was a perfect real ale. We all had a lovely time and will be coming back for definite. The difference from previously was unbelievable and we have changed our minds completely. We are also impressed by the prices and choices of other menu items. A big thank you to Nick and all his staff who worked hard and made the meal and experience very enjoyable.

I don’t know why this place gets such a high recommendation. It’s looks very inviting from the outside and the food is cheap but apart from that there is little to recommend it. The table we were shown to after we had booked was next to the gents toilet. The table was sticky and had not been cleaned properly after the last customers. We also had the pleasure of a birthday party accompanied by their children. We had to go in search of extra cutlery because there was not enough in the tub for four people. The serviettes were small and thin more like tissues. The starters were tasty and at 3 for £12 good value for money. Two people had the carvery and the ham and accompaniments were mostly well prepared and again value for money. I had scampi and the chips and scampi and the small quantity of tartar sauce tasted fine but the peas which looked like they had come out of a tin were not in my opinion edible. The food arrived fairly promptly but the staff were only available when they were delivering the food or picking up the used plates. We had to pay for the food when it was ordered but I suppose this a sign of the times these days. I would not go there again but if you are in a tight budget this place could be worth trying.

Please see my original report and managers response to it , on my photo below. (Visited 17:15. 05/01/2025) Firstly. The burger was very thin approximately 8mm thick, the bacon was like grease proof paper with pink stripes, the 2 onion rings looked to be missing but on closer inspection found greasy and flattened under the burger. Secondly. The larger was Carling and served in UNLINED, Carling glasses the pint measure on these glasses is therefore the brim of the glass, there was a head of froth approximately 10 mm and a gap above the froth of about 10mm to the rim of the glass. Thirdly. NOBODY came to our table to ask how the meals were (I think it was table 29 or 26), If they had I would NOT HAVE SAID "GOOD". Due to your rude response, to my original report (photo). I shall be bringing all of this to the attention of your head office.

From the moment we walked in we should of known to turn around again! No one to greet us, waited 5 mins to be shown to a table.

When seated at the table, not even asked if we would like drinks before ordering, I guess that's the norm here, but not something we are used to! Then told to use the app to order.

No one was at Carvery to serve, when I first went round, I even rang the bell and still no one so went back to my seat..They had to be shouted out to serve

Carvery was awful, dried out food that had obviously been sat there for ages. Maybe the time of day we went, but even so appalling.

Meat was tough and chewy, roast potatoes, definitely didn't look roasted, and had never seen such small and white roast potatoes in my life! I am a roast potato addict and this wasn't good. No Stuffing, is this wven a Carvery without it? Vegetables were again dried out, mash had a crust on the top that the Carvery guy stirred into the mash. It's such a shame as just moved to the area and I love a Carvery. It wasn't hot, just lukewarm. Couldn't eat it all as so bad, was hungry so did eat some in the hope the taste would improve, how wrong was I. It always goes on first impressions, and ours wasn't great at all I afraid to say, and we were so looking forward to our food, and the place looked great.

So, an update on our first visit, we were invited back for a visit, and this time was completely different. Service was great, and I went for a Carvery again, just to see if things were different this time around, and they mosy definitely were! The meat was all fresh and hot, and the beef was amazing, very tasty, lovely, and lean. Lots of lovely veg, amazingly tasty new potatoes (I did prefer the new potatoes to the roasties) as well as great mash. Everything was piping hot this time, and I couldn't eat it all, due to being so full!. Great food and great service. Thank you to all the staff. We will definitely be back now. This deserved a re review by us. A very happy...

After very good reviews and mother in law visited the carvery recently i booked a table for 11 as a surprise for my girlfriend. Unfortunately the food was a major disappointment and did spoil the night...the majority went for the carvery which we paid extra for pigs in blankets. on arrival at the service point we were greeted by a dry piece of gammon which was fatty and not crispy, a skinny turkey and a dry small chunk of beef! In fairness they did bring out another fresh cooked turkey but this was launched on the hot plate and nearly came off the pass. The chef said she was sorry as she was a trainee and did not know what she was doing! We were then advised there was no more beef! We were then advised there was no cauliflower cheese but some was on the way as they forgot to put the oven on ! With four of us queuing we were then advised that there were only 5 pigs in blankets left when we paid extra! It was a but late to put more on they said! The beef was dry and then she proceeded to chuck a chunk on my plate and said would i like a steak knife to cut or i may have to chew more ! Parsnips were burnt and no more of them available! In fairness they did bring us up a big bowl of cauliflower cheese but seems they forgot the sauce as we had was cauliflower with grated cheese on top! My issue is if you advertise a Carvery until 10pm you should have everything available as paid for. In all extremely disappointed and we will not be returning...
