My husband and I had been to Taunton to buy a car and needed to eat before coming back to Cornwall. We got petrol from Morrisons and the man working there suggested the Malt Shovel. We parked easily and went in to be immediately greeted by Sarah. All social distancing measures and sanitising stations were in place and the whole place looked very clean. We filled out the track and trace details and were shown to our table. We ordered our food and drinks which didn't take too long and the young lady who brought it was pleasant and chatty. My husband had the mixed grill which looked great and he said was cooked well and was extremely tasty. I had the American chicken burger which came with fries , coleslaw and onion rings and although I don't like onion rings and I always leave food I ate the lot! Tasty, good portion and full bellies. It's a shame we don't live closer because it would be a regular lunch spot for us. Welcoming, clean and nice atmosphere I recommend whether you're popping in for a pint or food any...
Read moreWent for a Christmas meal with our friends last night. Had to pre-order, which would have been fine if they had supplied what was ordered. The prawn cocktail starters 2 of us had were a meager portion but fine. The Mozerella bites however were over fried and very tough. I pointed out that I had written, in capitals, on the pre order form 'no sauce and jacket potato '. The server then relented and said a colleague must have transposed the order incorrectly and apologised. Once this had been rectified my Husband enjoyed his meal. My turkey and ham pie was just ok and the 2 Xmas dinners our friends had weren't that great. All in all not the best experience but at least the company was, as...
Read moreStopped for Sunday lunch after a walk, the staff and pub itself are lovely but the roast that was served was inedible, the beef was indelible, it tasted like it had been sat around for days before then reheated, i asked for chicken instead, the breast that came out was so burned and dry i could hardly eat it, My wife’s lamb was the same, chewy and tough. The yorkshires were terrible, the veg and spuds were ok but had some strange herb or spice on them, bisto gravy to boot. I hate leaving bad reviews, especially on pubs that are struggling these days But given the size and location of the pub I think they are missing a truck by not getting in someone who can do a good carvery or...
