UPDATE FEBRUARY 2021 Rising Cafe has adapted well to the current pandemic and the requirements to be Covid secure. As a result, there is no sit-in service, but take away is available with a limited number of people on the premises at one time, and hand sanitising stations. The take-away menu is wide ranging. The staff even offered to bring the food I purchased across to my car, if I was parked. Excellent coffee and lemon drizzle cake! For opening times and available menu, see my additional photos.

ORIGINAL: This excellent find is not only a vintage cafe serving a delicious range of hot food, snacks and cakes, but also a social enterprise charity (originally from a faith base, which still underlies its work) in which employees are people who have had a range of problems (including addictions) and have recovered and are being reintegrated into the community. As such the cafe is an incredibly welcoming place both in terms of staff and the environment. I applaud this ethos, and the staff that I met were shining examples of the success of the project. The food itself was quickly served (delicious lemon drizzle cake) and with a cheery attitude and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The premises are readily accessible to those with pushchairs and wheelchairs, and the washroom facilities are...

Sometimes you can chance upon a place through other circumstances. We were wandering around Hexham looking for somewhere to have lunch. Everywhere seemed to be full, including the outside areas. We happened to look into the Rising Cafe and there was a space for us. We were only after a light lunch. The menu offered a good selection of light bites. We ordered at the counter, we were pleasantly surprised with the selection of green teas. The price also put a smile on our faces. It was certainly less than what we have become used to paying. We read about the work of the Rising Cafe within the community. We were pleased our patronage is helping with their work. The staff were excellent and saw to it that we received a service that was expected. We know where our lunch stop will be next time we...

Had a fantastic experience here. Very stylish café. Lovely space to sit. Atmosphere was tremendous, nice background music. I had the full English. It was very nice. The coffee was outstanding. The service was very very quick. The wait time absolute minimal. The staff were fantastic. 3 people front of house were all very friendly, very helpful and really quick. Saw a few of their interactions with other customers and what came across was they were willing to go the extra, whether it be chatting with the customer That needed it or simply just being quick and efficient with those that didn't. Honestly superb experience here. I will go back next...

Stopped off here for a quick lunch before heading into Newcastle; it's a quirky little place with interesting decor. I picked the Cajun burger which was a chicken burger in seasoned coating, along with skin-on fries and a brief dressed salad. The meal itself was tasty, washed down with tea, but the service itself felt a bit chaotic - meals came at different times and there seemed to be confusion amongst the staff who was doing what. Still, for a lunch bite, it wasn't bad, and I'll certainly drop back in when I'm in the area again.

Wonderful service, a great cause and all done to excellence. The food was delicious and cake slice can only be described as a 'slab' - a very generous portion. Cream tea for £5 (scone, jam tea or coffee and clotted cream) which I am keen to try on my next visit. The coffee tasted very nice and cappucino done well. The atmosphere is nice, with lots of seating to choose from including soft seats and good tables. It is vintage themed with gentle jazzy music on in the background.
