Update: We returned here during our 2025 holiday but were sadly let down. Our starters took 45 mins to arrive, and the mains arrived 1 hour 20 after we placed our order. Most of the food was nice, but my salmon was raw in the middle. I asked for it to be properly cooked, but it came back with the centre still raw. The plate was hot, and it was clear the salmon had just been microwaved. I had to ask, quite awkwardly, for it to be cooked a third time. When it came back, now badly dismantled, it was mostly cooked but still had some undercooked parts in the middle. They did remove it from the bill, but the whole experience was disappointing, especially after such a long wait. The salmon had clearly been microwaved and was not handled with care. The restaurant itself was clean and hygienic, although there was no soap in the male toilets. The staff were all very friendly and apologetic, and they did their best. If I am honest the staff seemed overworked. 2024 review: Had a good meal in here. More premium than a basic pub. Steak good, soup good, diet coke good šŸ‘. Nice size portions. Nice staff

Not the most welcoming greeting we’ve had! We both got welcomed with a smile and when we mentioned we were booked in for 6:30 the lady stared said yes whilst nodding her head, we then stood there and repeated ourself as we were just stood making eye contact awkwardly she then abruptly said the word names - we apologised and both made her aware we didn’t know that’s what she wanted - she found us on the system and took us to the table! We completely understand she needed our name but at the time telling her we were booked in we were shocked to just be stood there in silence while she assumed we knew what information was needed for this reservation! The lady who greeted us I believe was called Bridget. Soon after Charlie a very welcoming, bubbly character came and made us feel at ease. She was extremely helpful and made us change our outlook on our initial opinion. The food we ordered was incredible credits to the chef! Charlie was also great throughout and can’t thank her enough for turning our experience around - overall a good experience and definitely recommended

I cannot fault this place . I walked in bedraggled after doing a hard 4 days walking and camping from treen to The Lizard . I didn’t have a room booked and couldn’t face another night under canvas as I looked out the window at the lashing rain . The location is right on the front of St Mawes . Big public carpark behind very reasonably priced Ā£7 for 24 hours . Food lovely staff smiley and service excellent . A special shout out to Jack who does seem to be a master of all trades . He got me a beautiful room at a really good price with breakfast included . Showed me round and I don’t think realised that after 4 days camping in wet weather most of the time he saved my sanity . Room absolutely excellent , dry robes provided , wonderful coffee and tea . Thank you to the Rising sun and Jacki in particularly.

An updated profile this time - we are currently staying in St Mawes and initially went out for a drink on a Monday evening to this pub/restaurant/ hotel. It was pleasingly busy, albeit a vast number of those visiting seemed to have come for dinner, so it did empty substantially as the evening wore on. There was a reasonable selection of a coupe of ciders on offer (not something I drink, so my thoughts about these stop there) a few of the local type beers (Proper Job, Tribute etc.) alongside a geneal beer/lager range amongst other alcohol and non-alcohol based beverages. Prices these days aren't cheap, but the Rising Sun is about mid-range of these, so given the location doesn't give rise to any alarm and it lower priced than other establishments around the same area. We decided a fish and chip supper was in order to supplement the beverages and opted for fish & chips, one of which needed to be gluten-free. Absolutely no problem, alll orderd noting the 100% gluten-free can't be guaranteed (a usual situation but as we can get away with a small amount not a problem, but for a severe intolerance perhaps be cautious), and deliverd freshly cooked in a reasonable time. To my surprise, the "normal" dinner came with a delicious curry sauce - small things count! So, in summary, a decent offering of drinks and meals - not the top but far from the worst by a very long chalk and recommended if you are in St Mawes either as a resident, staying whilst on holiday, or...

The Rising Sun is right in the middle of the village of St. Mawes. It is a large busy pub but runs like a well oiled machine. It is owned by the St. Austell Brewery, and has the usual good selection of their beers and a short wine menu that hits all the right spots. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and the food was very, very good and could not be faulted. Service was excellent. The view of the harbour from the restaurant was an added bonus . We stayed for three nights with our dog and the room was reasonably spacious, well furnished and had a comfortable king size bed. My wife described the decor as "coastal boutique". The en suite had a large shower. Shower gel, shampoo etc. were provided. Everything was very clean. The "Proper Dog" goody bag in our room with quality feeding mat, a ball, a can of "Proper Dog" beer(!), treats etc was a pleasant surprise as was the Dog Station in the entrance hall with water bowls, free treats etc. Children are also welcome, I believe. There was a good choice on the breakfast menu and breakfast was included in the room charge, which was not expensive in this day and age given the quality of the accommodation. It was also noticeable that breakfast was not only for guests - word of a good breakfast obviously gets around! A very welcoming business with really good, friendly staff including the hard working cleaning staff who always took a moment to say hello and make a fuss of our dog. All in all a...

My first ever bad review ,|I Booked The Rising Sun to take my other half away for a well earned break,|Sadly we got a very noisy room 10, it was very hot so we had to have the windows open, there is a industrial kitchen extraction unit directly outside the window, this thing is very loud, it did not stop while 11pm and started at 7am, |When the fan stopped then we got what I think was a industrial refrigerator ,it clicked on , approximately every 25 mins, with a big click then a buzz, we had a beer delivery at around 12.30am which went on a while with banging and clattering, at the same time the room next door was making noise and running up and down the stairs and talking,|We literally did not get any sleep, I was hoping to get my first lie in in months, instead I had to go sit outside at 7.30am to get some peace,|The place has lovely decor , lovely food ,lovely staff, no other issues, but if you do book, please avoid room 10,|We did mention this to the check out guy, he did say he could sort something out, regarding a refund, I told him I would leave it to him(I was so tired at this point I was struggling to think)as he had my credit card details, we have so had no refund.|I do not like leaving a bad review but if I had known how noisy the room was I would not have booked....
