We booked early at 6:30pm mid week. We were greeted very pleasantly and shown upstairs to a table. The restaurant was already half full. The service, however was slow. The server omitted to to tell us about the special . The menu had a heavy bias towards fish which we expected but seemed rather pricey. When the server arrived , I asked about the special, which was sea bas on a bed of mashed potatoes, with a decoration of green bits for £24. Unfortunately the ceiling is low & the floor is hard, so the result is excessive noise. There was a party of raucous young men and as the restaurant filled up, the noise got worse. At times I struggled to hear what my husband was saying across the table. The food was piping hot and mine was nicely presented. My husband had battered fish & chips, the chips served in a chipped enamel pie dish. When the bill arrived, my meal was £28 not £24., I could not be bothered to quibble about it, so we paid & left. Overall I think it’s trying to be trendy, without succeeding., without enough attention to detail. The staff were barely coping & we’re running up & down stairs. There was only one server with help from a young man downstairs. For the size of restaurant, this is inadequate. The prices do not justify the quality overall & it felt like “ rip off the tourist” time in a...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Watch House in St Mawes, Cornwall and I must say, it was the best food I’ve eaten in a long time! As someone who organises annual team-building sessions at various locations across the UK, this experience truly stood out.
The atmosphere at Watch House was welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. A special mention must go to the manager, who was unbelievably polite and was serving at multiple tables alone. Despite the busyness, they did a fantastic job of ensuring everyone was attended to without missing a beat.
The menu offered a fantastic selection of dishes that highlighted fresh, local ingredients. Each plate we ordered was not only delicious but beautifully presented. It was hard to pick a favorite, as everything was remarkable!
Due to the wonderful experience we had, a few of my team members are already planning to return with their families for a holiday in July, and they’ve made it a priority to dine at Watch House every night.
A big thank you to everyone at Watch House for making our time there so special. It’s safe to say that this is the best place we’ve ever visited for our team-building sessions, and we will certainly be back. From a very happy customer and...
Read moreBest Chips I've ever had with a rating below 4. What I got was crunchy cooked chips to perfection, apart from the odd chip, which is what we all desire.
If you want crunchy chips then come here.
If you want soggy to soft chips like most chippies & don't want the risk of overcooked chips then go elsewhere.
However I will point out that although cooked to perfection I ordered them plain, and they did taste bland so I had to add salt and vinegar to it to bring out the taste.
I will also add these tasted exactly the same as the 3rd best chippy in Devon that I visited in March.
Contrary to bad reviews which I ignored , I clearly went on a day when the expert was working (Thursday around 6pm)
Price & Size: When they come in boxes you will always know they are going to be more expensive and smaller portions compared to the chippies that sell them in paper, which is usually not at the seaside.
With its poor rating that maybe the place needs a new management structure as the standards here seem to be inconsistent.
On my next visit here i will be asking bystanders how the chips taste if this place continues to get negative reviews.
The...
