I am sorry that this is such a negative review which I really should have posted a few years ago but I have to be honest. Having visited St Mawes for a number of recent years we began by purchasing pasties and cakes from the bakery. However, I was always very uncomfortable by the fact that they would handle the unwrapped products by hand and then take money and move on to the next customer. Surely as a business you must be aware of all the germs that are carried and can be transferred on money. I have to confess I cannot recall whether they wore gloves or not but either way there was no change from handling the products to taking the money i.e. either they had gloves on for both or used bare hands for both. This swayed us from buying products from there over the past few years. This year I wanted to have a look to see whether they had changed any of their processes for the better because of Covid. I walked past the shop to see (I think) the owner standing in the doorway, about to serve a customer who was outside. She was not wearing a mask and actually coughed into her hand as I happened to walk by. I was quite appalled. Read moreWe have had wonderful bread, saffron buns, pasties over past 26 years we have stayed in St Mawes. This year we decided to do a Pasty Workshop. Can highly recommend! The bakery is just a short stroll from the shop. Jane and Pat led us in making the pastry and the technique used for an authentic pasty. 3 out of the 4 were veggie and I ndian and Jane went out of her way to obtain spices she thought would appeal. Whilst waiting for our pasty to bake we were treated to coffee and cake on the Quay before heading back to the bakery to see the finished result. Brilliant 👏 A great deal of pride ensued! Such a fun afternoon. Thanks to Jane...
