We booked a table at the Victory Inn because of the menu shown on their website - I was looking forward to the trout and my husband thought the steak would be a good choice. Parking at the nearby town car park was no real problem as the Victory is very old and tucked away in a passageway, which has it's own appeal. On arriving it was disappointing to see that a number of ales were sold out. On sitting down it was soon apparent that the actual menu had changed from the website menu - why? There was no trout and even more strange no steak whatsoever. We ordered our drinks and said we were ready to order our meal - the waitress said she would be back to take our food order in a minute. Fifteen minutes later I noticed other food orders were being taken (customers arriving after us) and when asking if we could order, I was told that she had a million things to do and was very busy - quite rudely! In the end we ordered our meal with another waitress and our meal arrived a further 45 minutes later. Yes the food was ok but can't say it was particularly good value. We think the menu on line should reflect the actual menu available, the prices of items still available had also increased somewhat! The service needs to be updated also. For the first time I can remember we...
Read moreWe were a table of 6, old friends who hadn’t seen each other for some years. We ordered drinks and looked at the menu, deciding that most of us would be choosing from the specials board. When we ordered we were told that one of the specials had sold out (our booking was for 6.45pm!) and when we decided to go for an alternative on the specials board, that was no longer available either! 2 of us chose the Donor Kebab Gyros, 2 of us the battered haddock and 2 the fish curry. Food took ages to arrive, the donor kebabs were luke warm, they were sent back to heat them up. The battered haddock was far too crispy and had been fried for too long, the potatoes wedges underneath the fish were tasteless and also lukewarm. It seemed our food had been standing somewhere for some time and not brought straight out. The fish curries were satisfactory. Our waiter Giles was told that we were not very happy, he tried in a cheerful way to help, and then kept coming to ask if everything was ok, when clearly we were disappointed with the eating experience. The one redeeming feature is that the balcony upstairs off the room we were in has a lovely view of the harbour, when you go outside to look at it. This was our first time at The Victory, and it will be our last. Very...
